Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Ran on the JRP with Karen and Wendy.  Starting temp was 14F, calm and amazingly NO bad smell :).  We headed north so I could have their company for 8 miles and run the remaining solo miles on the south portion which may have other runners later.  The river is a frozen glass of green.  Just north of the 2100N bridge, the trail was broken up into heaps of giant mud clods.  I think they're in the process of moving the trail about 100' to the east off the river as the edge had started to slough off.  Wish they would at least grade it.  We had to walk/hike up the frozen mud clods.

We stopped to eat and drink at the 4 mile turnaround.  Instead of hiked down the frozen uneven giant mud clods we went thru the vinyl fence to run on the pathway and reconnect back to where the broken trail/mud clods were not as steep.  About 0.5 mile to the car, we heard a man hollering "excuse me!" from behind which startled us because we had not seen anyone on the trail other than couple of hunters heading opposite direction at the beginning.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was CHAD!!!!  He was running around the park as we ran past and now heading home.

Wendy and Karen were glad that I now had someone to run with and so was I.  They didn't want me to be out there alone.  It was so fun to run with Chad for 3.5 miles and got a call from RAD! :)  Bid Chad goodbye after visiting with him a little at the gate.  It was a little scary to run alone so I picked up the pace.  Encountered a stray dog which came onto the trail minding his own business.  The silence of the trail was interrupted by flocks of migrating geese.   Ran the last 3.25 miles at mp.  Ate 6 Powerbar chews; drank 8 oz. water and 21 oz gatorade.

Feel good to have the weekly mileage back in the 50s again.  Hope to stay there then taper for the week before and after Christmas and hopefully ready for the first marathon of 2012.

You've got some great training going....what is your first marathon for 2012????

Great run! I can't wait until they finish that darn trail. Enough already!

I wish I could hit my last 3 miles of a long run at MP. I could only do that with some nice downhill, but who knows - the crazy tricks my brain would play as I was scared to death might just do the trick too :)

Very nice run. Must be isolated out there if you are sharing the trail with hunters.

Wow, 50s. Nice job throwing down that many miles in the winter. I'm glad I ran into you guys and got a chance to chat for a bit. Sorry I scared you. I'm glad the dog didn't get in your way.

Very nice run and congrats on your week. How many marathons are you going to do in 2012?

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 12, 2011 at 17:20:01 from 174.27.205.151

Slick ~ I am looking at Running from an angel on Jan 7. The RD is the same gal that organized Hoover Dam.

RAD ~ Me too, I wish they would finish the trail.

Flat ~ This JRP trail is surprisingly not as heavily used as the JRP in South Jordan. I think it's prettier with farms, golf course along the river. The hunters go there to hunt fowls! :)

Scott ~ I am hoping to run at least 9 marathons again in 2012. If I keep running 9/year, I'll reach the goal of 60 marathons by 60.
