Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Temp was in the high 50's.  I tried on a pair of running visor instead of running cap which seems to trap heat.  I think the visor works good as a sweat band.

Ran a route I haven't run for awhile.  First mile east to 1200E for warm up.  Then west along 3200N all the way to 1600W at Fox Hollow Elementary, then south to 2600N.  There's a gentle downhill on this 3 mile stretch.  The uphill comes from mile 4 going east on 2600 N with a nice headwind (summer breeze makes me feel fine!).  Then cruise home for the last mile.

6 miles in 55:09.  AP: 9:11.  Splits: 10:04, 9:08, 8:54, 8:48, 9:26, 8:50.

The ITB tugs a little on the downhill.  I'm icing it.  Will stretch and roll later.  Will do core work and yoga as well.

Nice work out AMAZING LADY!!! You are really at the top of your game :) I hope that ITB gives up soon ;)

Is the guy behind you in the picture NAKED??

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 12:35:12 from 75.162.169.219

Great job, Smooth!!!

From jona on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 12:35:51 from 67.214.249.195

You always amaze me with how many miles you put in week in week out! Good job!

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 12:49:45 from 71.35.210.218

Marion,

I'm babying that thing like crazy so it doesn't come back for UVM. What I need is my personal PT (aka Teena) to work on it and patch me up. :)

My hubby asked the same question...I didn't see him. That was at the finish after they gave us our space blanket and water bottle. We still had to walk a block to get our clothing bag. It was so cold. Temp was in the 40's and very windy. I can't believe that guy was naked. He looked pretty happy though; he must have had one too many beer. You can see a volunteer facing the runners with a hoodie on.

Dale,

THANKS

jon,

My mileage in May dropped way down, like half of what my usual monthly miles. After WBR, I'm going to try a different training approach, run 3 days a week. I have to play it by ear when I'm running the Utah Grand Slam.

From Teena on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 12:51:10 from 67.177.20.13

Nice job Smoothi!!!

Kids have tons of stuff this week (last week of school) so how about lunch next week? Or ... we could do a quick lunch on Thursday and then you could come to the Kindergarten program with me. Just let me know.

Take care of your IT-band.

I love you so so so so so much!!!

From MrsFIT on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:01:07 from 205.127.70.66

Smoothie ~ How's the foam rolling going? It should help out that darn IT band to a certain extent!

From marion on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:01:44 from 71.213.119.157

You just take it easy and don't stress about UVM. It is just your long training run for the month. Slow and relaxed. As I am sure that you are already aware- you don't have to do it :) I bet you could talk Teena into a little private pt ;)

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:05:10 from 71.36.64.213

Teena,

I have presidency mtg on Thur. plus Steven needs my car. STINK! I want to come watch Livvy and Oliver's program. May be I can get out of pres. mtg early and drop him off in Orem. We'll see.

How about Friday? What time is your kids' dance festival?

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:13:26 from 71.36.64.213

MrsFIT,

Yes, the foam roller helps. I didn't roll while I was out of town the last two weeks (didn't bring it with me). But I'm gonna foam roll faithfully.

Marion,

Yep, I have to keep reminding myself that UVM is a long long long run. Plus I have to save my legs for running the WBR 6 days later. What was I thinking? I am such an addict!

My personal PT is the awesomest, busiest, compassionate girl whom I love so so much. She is very very very very busy...so I will not add more busyness to her life.

From Teena on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:24:07 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth,

When is UVM? I think we should definitely tape your knee up for it. What do you think? And ... any time spent with you is time that I enjoy to the fullest!!! :)

I'm not exactly sure what time the dance festival is. I think around 9ish, but I will double check. We have plans to go to some icky place like McDonald's afterwards with Darin's/Bishop's family right after. Any chance you are interested in a really fun dance festival and really icky food?? :)

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:31:50 from 71.36.64.213

Teena,

UVM is next Sat. June 13. Taping the knee is a great idea. I think that's what saved me at Ogden. I can do it myself so you don't have to?

I am not running on Friday. I would love to come watch your kids' dance. McDonald is Larry and Steven's favorite hangout. I'm good at finding non-icky food there. Let me know the time and how to get to the school.

From Teena on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:35:54 from 67.177.20.13

The kids will be so excited to see you!!!! (and, of course, so will I)

Let me tape your knee on the 12th. We can also stretch and massage it lightly. Get it all loosey-goosey for you!!! :)

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 13:58:44 from 71.36.64.213

Teena, deal! Can't wait to see the kids. Let me make it clear that I want to buy lunch. :)

From RAD on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 14:56:24 from 67.166.99.8

Nice run Smooth!! That ITB doesn't give up for lovin' or money, but you're doing a good job of keeping it under control - AND your PT sounds like an amazing woman!! :)

Enjoy MickyD's - my kids know to not even suggest it unless its their birthday! I don't even really like the non-icky stuff there!

Enjoy that summer breeze while its still enjoyable.

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 15:01:06 from 75.162.169.219

Smooth, if you want to run UVM slower, the offer still stands if you would like to run it with me between 10:00 and 11:00 min pace. I'm not looking to go all-out. I would like to enjoy it and get through it without incident so I can build up my confidence.

From Teena on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 15:06:11 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth,

It is clear that you "want" to buy ... you can "want" to buy all day ... but your NOT buying!!! :)

I'm way excited to see you!!! :)

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 15:27:23 from 71.36.64.213

Rachel,

You spoke like a woman with experience and authority. You and I need to kick this ITB thing for good.

Dale,

Sounds like a plan. I did Ogden around that pace. We'll get each other through UVM, concrete downhill, heat and all. Man, do I sound positive or what? Let's enjoy our long long Sat. run with hundreds of our friends.

Teena,

Let me make it more clear... I WILL BUY! That's what Nana Smooth is for. LOVE YOU!!!

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 15:59:40 from 75.162.169.219

Ok, Smoothie, it's a deal. We will need to communicate throughout the race to let each other know how the other is feeling so we can slow down or speed up.

From kelli on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 16:19:50 from 71.219.83.192

Lots of YOGA! No downhills!!

Visors are awesome, they let your head breathe and keep your eyes from burning (from sweat dripping into them!!)

From Rhett on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 18:34:39 from 170.215.58.122

Wow it is still in the 50s there in UT. It was 84 when I woke up at 5 this morning here. I need to get a summer job somewhere where it is cooler. Nice run. Keep stretching and rolling and you'll be ok.

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 19:10:37 from 71.36.64.213

Dale,

I'm so excited I finally get to visit with you. We kept missing each other at all the other races. Yes, we will keep the pace nice and easy and have so much fun.

Kelli,

NO downhills? Utah Valley has tons of downhills. None of my WBR legs has downhill. I will live!

I like this new visors except it's not as light as my cap plus it makes my hair spike up funny. Can't decide if I'll wear it at UVM or not. If it's really sunny I might stick with the cap to keep the scalp from getting burnt.

Rhett,

Yes, you should come work here in Lehi. We have a brand new physician complex and NO optometrist. I will be your first patient. Our highs are in the 80's right now and it's too hot for me. I don't think I'll ever move to AZ.

I just did my stretching and rolling for the second time today. THANKS for the reminder!

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 19:24:17 from 71.219.98.183

I forget you have short hair! But, all runners have crazy hair, right?

Rhett, I am in. Move here, you can be our eye Dr. AZ seems BRUTAL.

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 19:41:30 from 152.216.7.5

That's right, Smooth, we've seen each other at several races but have only been able to wave at each other. At Ogden you and Rob took off so fast from us that you were gone in only a minute or so. LOL

I might have to get me a visor. After my 18 miler on Sunday, while we were at the movies, I started getting REALLY, REALLY hot all of a sudden. My wife told me to take off my hat, so I did and it was instant relief. It's like all the heat was trying to come out of the top of my head.

From Susanna Lew on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 21:22:55 from 71.36.64.213

Dale,

Another trick Pron8r taught me is to get one of those thin sponges. You soak it with cold water and put it inside your running cap. I haven't tried it yet b/c my head with all the hair is already too big, but I have doused my head and back with water when I ran DesNews the last two years. Visors is good if you're not afraid of sunburning your head. There might not be much shades once we're running in the city of Provo the last few miles when it's the hottest. There are some shades in the River Parkway portion towards the lake.

We'll exchange cell# so we can ride up or at least find each other at the start.

Kelli,

Yes, most runners have crazy hair. But mine is very scary when it's straight and spiked up. Wish I was a boy. I would do mine like Scott's! :)

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 21:37:35 from 71.219.98.183

I just told some of the runners in our group today that I was going to shave my head! My hair is very scary after I finish a sweaty run! I am sure I can beat you on that one.

From Susanna Lew on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 21:43:53 from 71.36.64.213

Nah Kelli, I LOVE your beautiful thick locks. Don't ever cut it short or shave it. If I have hair like yours, I would not have to curl it...just pull it up in a pony tail and good to go.

From Teena on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:00:58 from 67.177.20.13

You are NOT buying!!!

Maybe I will let you buy the kids an ice cream cone if they eat all their lunch. Fair deal??

Also, what in the world can you order at McDonald's that doesn't make you feel icky????

From Susanna Lew on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:07:37 from 71.36.64.213

NO arguing in front of the children. I will buy lunch and ice cream cones.

They have yogurt parfait, grilled chicken sandwitch, salad, not the best, but not as icky as hamburgers and fries. Their snack wraps aren't too bad either. I like the honey mustard grilled chicken one.

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:11:16 from 71.219.98.183

I LOVE the snack wraps and parfaits and, of course, an ice cream cone. You can always find something to eat! Have fun ladies!

From Teena on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:15:44 from 67.177.20.13

Hey Kelli,

You want to come to the dance festival too??? Ha Ha Ha!!! Are your kids having one as well?

When are us three doing the very very very very easy and short morning run after our temple trip which will then be followed by breakfast???

From Susanna Lew on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:16:13 from 71.36.64.213

Kelli, can you join us on Friday? Doesn't Scott have Fri off?

From Susanna Lew on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:18:05 from 71.36.64.213

Hey, Teena beat me to it. Yeah, when shall we do the temple/funrun/breakfast date? I'm good any morning except Thur.

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:26:14 from 71.219.98.183

I get to do spelling tests for the last time this school year on Friday! YEAH!!! But thanks for the offer. I so hate to pass up McDonalds!!!

I am up for the fun run after the temple and followed by breakfast whenever you two already!! Ashly is out of school as of tomorrow, so I have a babysitter all day every day.

From Susanna Lew on Tue, Jun 02, 2009 at 22:31:07 from 71.36.64.213

Kelli, you're a FREE woman! Let's play!

Teena, let us know when you're ready to come out and play.

From Teena on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 10:23:12 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth,

The dance festival is at 10:45 a.m.

Do you want to meet at my house at 10:30?

I told the kids last night that you were coming. They are SO SO SO SO excited!!! :) (Especially Rylee ... she is so in love with you!)

From Susanna Lew on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 10:59:47 from 71.36.64.213

10:30 at your house it is! I am so excited!!! Tell Rylee I miss her so much that I can hardly wait. Should I bring something?

From Teena on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 11:27:50 from 67.177.20.13

You should maybe bring a chair to sit on. If you don't have one, no big deal. I can use Rylee's and you can use mine. The dance festival is outside. :)

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 20:15:38 from 71.36.64.213

I have tons of lawn chairs. Will the twins be dancing too? I remember how crazy it was trying to watch my kids and keeping the babies/toddlers happy. Half the time couldn't even see my own child dancing as I would without fail sit on the wrong side of the field. I remember the grandma's were so relaxed, happy and proud. That's what I will be on Friday. I'm so excited!!! :)

From Teena on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 11:56:24 from 67.177.20.13

Nope ... twins will not be dancing. :( They have their program today. It's fun having the dance festival outside because all the kids really seem to enjoy it.

Can't wait to see you!!!
