Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

The colder morning temp (24), the holiday gluttony, the late nights and the thought of running 15 solo miles didn't make for much motivation for me this morning.  Drag my tired self out of bed.  Had a yogurt and some gatorade.  Wore l/s top, tights, jacket, gloves and sunglasses.

Ran by my lonesome self on the JRP, same route as last Sat going north.  I saw two guys from my ward running on the opposite direction around mile 3.  The first 3 miles came in at 10:07, 9:35, 9:25.  Mile 4 and 5 with the uphill came in at 9:56 and 10:23, a bite slower than last week.  I really missed having someone (Kelli and friends) to push me here.   

Took 1 Gu with 1 flask of water at the mile 5 turnaround.  The downhill felt nice with a slight headwind coming from the south, mile 6 & 7 came in at 9:00 and 9:38.  I got distracted on the middle miles with the beautiful golf course, sunny sky and vista of the mountains.  Mile 8, 9, 10 splits were 9:26, 9:21, 9:33.  Felt a little tired by mile 10 and was glad to reach the car where I ditched my jacket and fuelt belt, drank 10 oz gatorade.  It took less than a minute, but sure felt good.  

Feeling revived I continued south to get 5 more.  I missed KellieS who ran with me on this stretch last Sat.  The splits came in at 9:13 and 9:06.  I turned around at the wetland trailhead and picked up the pace a little for the last 2.5 miles.  Finished the last three miles at 9:03, 8:55 and 8:32.  Right calf felt a little tight.  Jogged around the parking lot over the old bridge for a few minutes to cool down. 

15 miles in 2:21:20.  Average pace: 9:25.  HR: 159.  Arth: 4  Calf: 3

Hubby and I are hosts tonight at the company Christmas party dinner (4th one this week).  It's going to be Italian instead of Market Street Grill.  I hope the dessert is terrible.

Smooth...You are simply amazing!! Way to go getting in that long run all by yourself. I sure do get bored running all those miles by myself. Keep it up.

Oh I wish we could have meet up for a run. I never did get out the door (well sort of read my blog for more info) Those long runs by yourself can be killer!

Dale -- yah, running alone is no fun.

Kathie -- I wish you could have met up too. Any chance you and Kimmy want to come to Lehi next Sat. for a run? I will LOVE it. Sorry your day was so crazy.

Teena -- Yup, 4 dinner party in a week. We gave away Jazz tickets too and missed our ward party. I think I gained 7 lbs this week. The worst part is I am SO NOT ready for Christmas.

You probably already know this but look what I read today:

"The importance of warm-up and cool-down in exercise

Warming up and cooling down in exercise help your body transition from rest to activity and back again. You also decrease your risk of injury or of being sore. Warm-up should last at least 10 minutes — longer for older people and those who have been sedentary for a long time. Cool-down is especially important. Target heart rate for cool down is 10–15 beats above your resting rate. If you stop exercising too quickly, your blood pressure can drop sharply, which can be dangerous and can also cause muscle cramping.

Make sure that you breathe regularly throughout your warm-up, exercise routine and cool-down. Holding your breath can raise blood pressure and cause muscle cramping."

Just thought it was interesting.

Teena -- THANKS!!! I always suspect that was part of the cause of my muscle cramping. I notice if I stopped running abruptly, my muscle would cramp up. Thanks for sharing what you read. Where did you read this? I'd like to find out more. You're an angel!!!

Great run... and all alone! It is good for us to get distracted by the beauty around us! Running is for our souls! :) They were talking in sunday school today about good times to pray and I wanted to raise my had and say "I pray CONSTANTLY while I am running." They all think I am a yahoo, so I kept my thoughts to myself. ;)

Marion, you are so cute. Yup, I pray constantly while I run too. I've even sang hymns when I ran out of praying words. It happens alot in long distance races when I'm fighting cramps. It really works, faith overcometh fear.

The more I run the more spiritual I realize it is. Maybe ALL things that make us feel like we are going to DIE are better for us than we might think ;) Hey- anything that compels us to call on God for His support has to be a good thing, right?

Oh, I wish I could have been there to run with you!!! Another time. Basketball starts next Saturday, so I will have to coordinate the game schedules and see if we can make some more runs in Lehi. I know next Saturday is out becasue we have a dance recital at 10 am, but maybe the following week!

I just realized that my kids get an entire week off before Christmas, so maybe we can meet for some runs during the week since I will have a babysitter!

Kelli -- you're SO SWEET. I had no idea how fun it is to run w/ someone until you ran with me. Don't you worry about your cute little self to coordinate a run in Lehi. Of course, I'd LOVE it. But I also understand with Christmas and basketball, you're VERY busy.

The new picture was taken at a pizza party after Painter's Half in Jan. this year. A bunch of us "forumites" got together after the race for lunch at the Pizza Factory. JeffC who's a blogger organized it. I wish I had a better picture of the whole group. This was the only one showing Teena, me, Kimmy and half of Kathie's pretty face. Kimmy (a lurker here) is Kathie's sister.

I am all for an informal, last minute run anytime!! Just wait until my kids are home, I will be begging you all to meet me for a run! I really dislike running alone MOST of the time. I get so bored talking to myself!

Kelli -- K, anytime you want informal running, I'm game. Just as long as it's not in the middle of the night. You know this prednisone can do a number on insomnia.

Smooth, good run! I'm usually a solo runner, and solo runs are difficult when your doing 13 + miles.

I'm always interested in an informal run. PM me and see if I can attend, I know where to drop water headed south, would be happy to drop water. (just need to remember a sign so nobody steals it all, or throws it away.)
