Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

This was by far the hardest workout I've done this training cycle.  Coming off a 50+ miles last week with 3 race days really wiped me out.  Headed to the HS and parked as close to the track as possible.  When I was done, a parking violation ticket was on my windshield.  STINK!  Thankgoodness the office ladies knew me and took care of it.

Schedule calls for 8 x 800m @ 3:42 (1:30 RI).  Are you kidding me?  There's no way I could hit that pace, not with tired body and irritated ITB.

2 miles warm up @ 9:06, 8:11

1x800 @ 3:35 (rookie mistake started too fast)  RI @ 1:30

2x800 @ 3:36 (same dumbness)  RI @ 1:30

3x800 @ 3:39 (getting harder)  RI @ 1:30

4x800 @ 3:49 (having hard time maintaining the pace)  RI @ 1:30

5x800 @ 3:51 (legs and lungs are burning)  RI 1:30

6x800 @ 3:58  (wanted to quit so bad)  RI 1:29

7x800 @ 3:51 (getting tired, should I cut this workout short?)  RI 2:20 (took extra recovery time to drink, doused water on self.  Ok, just go for it...only 2 laps!)

8x800 @ 3:43 (hanging on with dear life)  RI 1:30 (YAY!  DONE!!!  Still ALIVE, barely!)

Cool down 1.25 miles @ 9:05, 9:06.

Only 7 more workouts left before SGM.  I will survive!

Way to stick with it! Are you trying for a 3:40 Marathon time? That is really fast!

From Cal on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 15:21:43 from 66.133.117.3

Way to run Smooth. That's Cruising! You really picked it up on the final 800. It's nice to finish those hard ones, huh.

From Kimmy on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 15:33:45 from 71.38.229.92

Nice job smooth...you know how much I love that workout. The best part about it, it being done!!!!! Way to stick with it

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 16:31:24 from 71.36.76.147

Kathie ~ I almost gave up. No, I'm not trying for a 3:40. There's no way I could run a 3:40. The FIRST program has these really hard workout. Their 800s aren't like Yasso's. I'm following the 4:00 marathon schedule and it has me doing 800 @ 3:42, insane. The principle behind it is: run faster, run less (name of the book).

Cal ~ I think I was able to pick the pace up on that last one because I took a 2:20 rest interval instead of the 1:30. Also knowing that it's the last one, I just pushed it and be done with.

Kimmy ~ I really wanted to quit half way thru that 6th interval. I'm glad I stuck with it. Yes, the best part was when it was over...DONE! It's a good feeling!

From timp on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 17:10:26 from 129.188.33.26

great job to keep going! Those track days are hard when no one is out there with you. I always want to quit halfway through - and then 3/4 of the way through.

Smooth, you did SO good! Despite nearly dying and wanting to quit you still nearly hit your target pace on your last one as well as the first few. SO impressed, I wish I could steal some from you :) Rest well and gear up for those 7 more workouts!

From MarcE on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 21:38:43 from 24.155.140.8

Wow..those are some impressive splits! 4:00 marathon is going to feel easy with those speeds under your belt. Tick-tock-tick-tock...17days, 10 hours, 7 minutes!!!!

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 22:14:39 from 71.32.234.162

Timp ~ Thanks for the kind comment. I equate track with pain. But it feels so good AFTER the workout. I just have to remember that DONE feeling!

Teena ~ Ne'ah! NOT as tough as YOU! How are you feeling now? 17 days plus a wakeup! Can't wait!

Rhett ~ Hope you're right! How's your foot? That Ktape sure takes a long time to arrive! Hope you're running with no foot pain soon.

Leslie ~ Yep! SGM is gonna be FUN! You're doing so AWESOME with bootcamp and all.

Paul ~ Your long run on Sunday was SO AWESOME! Now that's committment, running outside solo for 24 miles. You're a diehard! That sub-3 is yours!

Rachel ~ Same goes for you on the rest well part. You're gonna do AWESOME! BQ here you come! Hope I see you on Sat.

Mike ~ Yep! Getting excited for SGM! You're coming along nicely. You'll do great!

Marc ~ I hope you're right. Hope the magic of SGM carries me to a sub-4. Can't wait to see you in 17 days.

Smooth -

I am feeling okay. Just did some elliptical to try and work some of the tightness out. Took it nice and easy while studying some. I am going to go spend some time with Ry now. :)

I love you.

Get some great rest tonight! I am going to shoot for 8 hours! :)

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 23:14:05 from 71.32.234.162

Teena ~ Glad to hear you're feeling good. NICE study and working out the tightness. GOOD GIRL to get 8 hrs. I have loads of laundry to do. Can't go to sleep till Pres. comes home from his mtg. which means not before 11p. STINK! I will eat some yummy salad for you tomorrow. Gonna miss you bad! LLL LLL LLL Good nite!

From JulieC on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 00:18:11 from 207.225.207.4

Alright now you and Teena have me thinking I should be doing 8 instead of 6. Otherwise it just wouldn't be a workout, I would fall short of the "kill me now" moment. Thanks. Hope I sleep tonight as I worry about this. PS you ran this on the AF track? You are so speedy with all those miles you put in. Do my night shifts count as miles? I just can't fit more in : (( Smooth the EVER READY RUNNER!!

From kellies on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 00:36:09 from 67.222.231.10

Smooth, are you kidding me??? YOU ARE INCREDIBLE!!! What a nice feeling when that is done though and you can say "I DID IT"!!!! And look at you, when you wanted to call it quits, you didn't! All the added confirmation that you are a die hard, rock star, ambitious, aggressive, motivated, determined, toughest little thing I have ever met. I am so darn proud of you. VERY NICE WORK!! Lots of Love!

From Huans32 on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 09:33:16 from 138.64.2.76

WOW!!! You did awesome on that one. I opted out of it in the end early. I wish I was on a track instead of in the club house. Way to tough it out. AND YOUR ALIVE!!!

From Kelli on Wed, Sep 16, 2009 at 11:09:43 from 71.219.96.151

Nice job, you hit that pace and better on most of your 800's! I have never done more than 6, I think 8 would kill me!

I wonder why the rest interval is so short? I have always been told to rest the same amount of time as the 800 took. You are hard core for only taking less than half of that!
