Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

What a beautiful morning!  Had a restless night...missing my kids...why is goodbye so hard?  Had only enough time to run 6 because of morning meetings.  Lots of things to do.  Hubby has moved the entire office furnitures to the "home-teachers room" (aka living room) while I was out of town.   He figures no one ever goes in there except when the home-teachers come.  It must have been quite a back-breaking job.  Now I can't find any of my papers, books.  At least he got the computer hooked up.

6 miles in 52:15.  AP: 8:42.  Splits:  8:54, 8:45, 8:39, 8:34, 8:36, 8:44

The ITB was tugging a little.  Will stretch and roll good later...got to catch up on 2 weeks of laundry...etc.

I've got the PERFECT solution to all that laundry.......buy new stuff and throw the dirty stuff away :D

Welcome back!!! You've been missed. I bet you had a GREAT time :)

From Smooth on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 15:00:40 from 71.36.65.147

MrsFIT,

Good thinking! Except I hate shopping more than doing laundry. I don't mind the buying, it's the shopping. Speaking of which...the fridge is empty...I need a domestic helper.

Marion,

I miss y'all too! I did have a GREAT time...now I miss my out of state kids SO badly. You're a mother, you understand!

I am so glad my son lives close by! He is coming over today for a visit I can't wait!

I think you are playing it smart with the ITB. It will be better soon. Are you still doing UVM?

From Smooth on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 15:51:10 from 71.36.65.147

Kathie,

I'm still thinking about it. Will see how the next two weeks go with the ITB. I still have a score to settle with charlie horse. May be I ought to try that apple cider thing Slick suggested.

From Rhett on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 16:08:00 from 170.215.58.122

It would take a lot to get me to drink Slicks apple cider vinager. I'm not thinking it helps with IT band injuries. I'm impressed with how much you have been able to run while nursing that injury. You must be doing all the right stretches and rolling and strength exercises.

I just noticed that you are doing the WBR, I am so jealous! I wanted to do that race so bad but no luck finding a team, not even Teena wanted to do it! Get mad at her for me!

From Smooth on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 21:30:36 from 71.36.65.147

Rhett,

I'm willing to try anything to get rid of charlie horse once and for all. I tried the Enlyten electrolyte strips at Ogden. It didn't work. It gave me bloated tummy instead. I tried to stretch throughout the day. I added the side leg lifts to myt core workout hoping that would strengthen the hip abductor muscle. The rolling hurts bad at first; but it gets easier each time. I hope your foot tendon heals well and completely so you can run again with no pain. BEST WISHES!

Annie,

I don't know why I'm doing WBR. I was invited two years in a row and had to turn them down. So this year I just couldn't say no again. It really amounts to an expensive running slumber party. I can see why Teena doesn't want to do it. If you really want to be in a team, there's always opening; but it's funner to run in a team of your friends and family.

So glad to have you back in town, Smooth!!! We all missed you.

From DonGardinero on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 21:35:44 from 152.216.7.5

I used to think the WBR would be fun, but I think I would get car sick the entire time I wasn't running.

From Smooth on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 22:23:01 from 71.36.65.147

Dale,

Good to be back. I miss y'all too!

Hmmm, I hadn't thought about the car sick part. There will be 4 guys and 1 girl in our suburban. I get to start around 5:33pm Fri. 2nd leg at the wee hour at 1:05 am and last leg at 10:00 am. Don't know how I'll do with no sleep, car sick and running in the dark. Should be interesting.

From JulieC on Fri, May 29, 2009 at 12:45:18 from 70.58.105.53

I just declined a free spot on WBR!!! I must be somewhat normal. It was runner 11 and would be after two night shifts. Runner 11 has it rough. I would take Ragnar over its legs. Which leg are you running? If you are in the first van you run at sane times for the most part. Never been in the first van. Never been quite sane either. Hey Annie want to run it? I am sure you will be a welcome blessing. I am thinking of trading a shift to work that night too so I don't get the slightest bit of temptation to go and run. Don't get me wrong it is fun and quite the blast if your group is fun I suppose. Mine was awesome for two years. I just can't work it out with my schedule and need to back off some of the pressures I put on my body.

From Smooth on Fri, May 29, 2009 at 13:42:54 from 71.36.84.123

Julie,

Our team captain is taking runner 11. I am runner 7, easiest legs since I would be recovering from Utah Valley 6 days before. It is insane. Our team consists of mostly fathers and sons and their sons' friends. Since I have raised 5 sons, I'm used to being around boys. It will be fun. They are hilarious. The other girl on our team is a fast marathoner. She and the older guys have done this two years. I'm the rookie in van 2. I only know one guy from van 1. He's the co-captain, brother to our captain.

From JulieC on Fri, May 29, 2009 at 19:22:34 from 70.58.105.53

Utah Valley Marathon? I think you are definitely just as insane as I am!!!! However I did contemplate running UVM after working all night!!! That thought quickly left me, true insanity. I may do Ragnar after all, my husband could drive me up to meet my van just before my leg, to let me sleep until 1pm after my two nights. I ran the snow canyon part two years ago as runner 12, it was a hoot, the heat and the incline. Now that they extended the course it is runner 11 that takes it on but we get to now peak at the top and go a bit downhill on the other side. How nice of them. The worst part is the final leg runner 11 (which I did only the last 4.2 of it as runner 12) which is 7.6 miles of STEEP downhill. Hobble creek doesn't even compare. It is like Ragnar in reverse and on pavement. OUCH!!! Even the middle run is over 7 miles and considered HARD. If I decide to do it I just want to take it easy. Of course I say that and then I won't. Time will tell.
