Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Wk 5 speed work calls for 3x1600m @ 7:40 (400mRI).  Debated whether to do this on the TM b/c of the hazy/smoky air outside.   Got to the HS track and found only one class there (girls marching on the outside lane).  Sweet, had the track to myself.

Warmup 2 miles in 18:55.

1st 1600m @ 7:40  (400m RI @ 2:42)

2nd 1600m @ 7:42 (400m RI @ 3:37) started to wheeze half way thru the interval, walked a bit during the RI and drank water.

3nd 1600m @ 7:42 (400m RI @ 3:29) pushed hard during the last 200m, and almost puked going into the RI while coughing up the little fluids from the trachea.

Cooldown 1.25 miles in 10:46.  Left quads soreness felt half way thru the cool down.  Have felt this before...sore/tightness after pushing pace while slowing down.  No soreness now; but throat is scratchy.  Hope this workout was worth the icky particulates I breathed in for an hour.

7 miles in 1:00:42.  AP: 8:38.

Very nice job, Smoothie. Maybe you should have ran on the treadmill instead. I wanted to run outside today, but opted for inside.

From Leandra on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 13:07:06 from 71.35.248.36

Smooth that is such a cutie picture of you! and nice job today!

From LuzyLew on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 13:38:34 from 208.187.197.42

Look at how speedy you are. Catherine told me how you guys speeded up those last 8 miles on Saturday. You really worked her good. You are literally 30 years older than her, and such a stellar runner. You're amazing. I'm so glad you came down and just sorry I had such an incredible 'emergency'. That's just never happened to me like that before on a regular training run. But you were so good for Catherine. She is just learning how to maintain a faster pace and it was good practice. I'm so glad you came!BTW, I am feeling much better (both emotionally and physically). I think I get too stressed, tired, and wound up once everyone at my house is competing and needing my assistance in that 6:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. time slot. During the summer, that's "me" time. No "me" time to work out (run out) all the stuff I've got going on in my head. Thanks for that extra support and love coming my way this week. Truly, I drank it up. Have a great day!

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 13:50:17 from 71.36.80.74

Luz ~ I am so so so so glad you're feeling better. I know what you mean by the no "me time" and having to deal with the morning "everyone needs mom time".

Thanks for the kind words about running with Catherine. It was a good workout for me too. So nice to have Catherine to run with. I want to run with you sometime. You are a great runner. I think we are a good match. Wendy is thinking about running the same route in two weeks (Sept 12) for a 20 miler. I'd be thrilled if you are game. Keep in touch.

From LuzyLew on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 14:06:45 from 208.187.197.42

Yes, that would be great(perfect timing). We usually squeeze 20 miles out of the trail by starting down by the lake and then running to Vivian (and back down to Bridal Veil falls). That way we do a good portion uphill, get a small downhill cool-down, and it's all one way. We can do that, or just run up 10 and down 10. But do come on down (we'd try to get going at 6:00). As we get toward that Sat. Just let me know so we'll know to meet you!

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 14:16:36 from 71.36.80.74

Yay! I'm so excited. Just need to know where to park and the logistics. We'll talk about it as we get closer to that Sat. THANKS! Luz! Can't wait to run with you!

From RAD on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 14:46:59 from 76.27.12.70

Nice work Smooth! I was happy with my 800's until I saw your same pace on 1600's! HOLY COW! You are killing this speed. GREAT work...Kelli and I were chatting about doing Provo Canyon Saturday, maybe we can tag along on your route?

From Leandra on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 14:52:22 from 71.35.248.36

Provo Canyon is my running area! If you guys come down here i should do a few miles with you! I obviously won't do 20 but it's always fun to start with someone you know. Maybe I'll join!

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 14:57:50 from 71.36.80.74

Rachel & Leandra,

Yes, we will definitely get together for our last long run before SGM. The more the merrier. I really like running the Provo Canyon.

All these long running plans!!! Too much fun!!! One of these days I need to get over to Provo Canyon, it is a gorgous place to run.

I agree the air is horrible! I hope you are okay.

From Rhett on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 15:16:51 from 74.42.169.243

Very nice repeats and you hit them all about the exact pace. You are doing so great. Keep it up.

From Smooth on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 15:37:41 from 71.36.80.74

Leslie ~ Yes, I'd love to have you join us for a Provo Canyon run. Wendy tells me to say HI to you. Hopefully the air will be cleared by Sat's 1/2. We need a rain storm.

Rhett ~ THANKS! I hope your foot gets better real soon.

From Huans32 on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 16:40:45 from 138.64.2.76

Very nice job there Smooth. You did very well outside in that haze and smoke. I am going to run inside tonight. My throat is very sore already and still sneezing. And you hit those pace very well. Very impressive really.

Your speed work looks FANTASTIC! You had some really great mile splits today. I am proud of you. Is the SF half this weekend or next? I can't wait to see you PR on that course too!

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 21:41:06 from 71.219.64.200

NICE WORKOUT!!!! You are such a speedy little thing o the track, you put all of those girls to shame!!! I am sure they were all thinking, "I want to be her when I grow up!"

Yucky air for sure, I hope it blows out of here soon!

From Kathie on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 21:42:31 from 207.155.176.10

Super fast smooth you are going to kill your pr at SGM!

From MarcE on Wed, Sep 02, 2009 at 00:21:35 from 24.155.140.8

Sounds like there's smoke all over Utah and California..I hope it clears up in the next 31 days! You're so speedy -- and to hit those splits right on the button like that is amazing.

From Smooth on Wed, Sep 02, 2009 at 16:55:09 from 71.36.65.90

Bec,

SF 1/2 is this Sat. GOOD LUCK on your Red Rock Relay.

Kelli,

My son came home and asked if I was at the track. He said the girls were the Drill Team and were like "WOW, your mom rocks!"

Marc,

There's a wild fire in southern Utah. We get these almost every summer.

I don't like speedwork. It nearly killed me. I finally got to puke zone on the last interval.

From leslie peterson on Wed, Sep 02, 2009 at 16:58:52 from 76.23.61.78

oh my, I have never been to the puke zone, you are a tough cookie!
