Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

 HAPPY 1st day of DECEMBER!!!!

As soon as Lex got off to pre-school.  I put Luke in a bike/trailer/stroller and went for a run.  The sky was overcast; breezy; temp may be in the high 40's.  Wore l/s and capris.  Saw another runner w/ beanie, gloves, l/s and tights on.  Lots of dog-walkers were wearing coats.  I could have worn shorts but didn't want to alarm the locals.

The first mile felt like I was learning how to run all over again, CLUNKY!  It didn't help pushing this honka donka stroller on a winding narrow cement sidewalk/trail.  The stoller is also lop-sided and the handle bar is WAY too high for my hands/arms making it difficult to steer.  Not complaining...SO HAPPY to be running...albeit very slow!

Ran around the Greenbelt loop 3 times...staying close to the hood just in case it rains...it never did and the baby was happy the whole time!  LIFE IS GOOD!

TT: 1:16:10  Splits (just for the heck of it):  11:45 (eek!), 10:23, 10:03, 10:00, 10:28, 10:24, 10:30, 10:08.

Found out today is the Grand Slam Registration, ONLY today gets the Early bird fee.  They now make it a lottery.  What's up with that?  Anyhow,  since I'm out of town  I called hubby to have him fax it in for me.  They do not have on-line registration!

YEEPEEE!!! great to be running even with the stroller! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time!

From Kathie on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 13:51:10 from 63.248.105.188

Those are some fast times with a stroller...nice run!

From Rhett on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 15:07:42 from 74.42.168.210

If you keep that up while out there, running without a stroller will be easy. Glad you stayed dry. When it rains in Houston it usually comes down hard.

Nice strolling running Smooth. Hope you are enjoying the little ones.

From RAD on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 15:54:03 from 76.27.12.70

welcome back to the mama running world! :) Those strollers add SO SO SO much, don't eeek at those miles...pushing a stroller will always slow you WAY down. I tried it last summer and got all of 500 yards then had to quit - too hard, especially going uphill which is my only choice out here!

Glad you got some miles in and that you are also getting to enjoy those beautiful little babies!!

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 01, 2009 at 16:25:38 from 71.52.71.251

Cal ~ Can't remember what my mileage was last year. Goal is to reach the 2K mark. Stay tune!

Lori ~

Thanks! It's fun being a grandma! Sure it's exhausting though. I swear kids nowadays are SO MUCH more work and SO MUCH more hyper!!!

Kathie, Rachel & Rhett~

THANKS for the affirmation! I don't know how people run SO FAST pushing strollers on those 5Ks like the one at Art City Day.

Bec ~

Lex and I made a cave today. Luke was SO EXCITED when I crawled in to play with them. A baby's laugh is PRICELESS!

Kellie ~

Winter in TX is SO WARM! But I do like Utah Skiing though!

nguenvn ~

THANKS! GOOD LUCK on your Reindeer 5K this Sat.

jun ~

I was lucky that it didn't rain on the grand baby while I was running. It has been raining cats and dogs all afternoon and evening. I guess that's winter in TX!

I bet everyone thought is was your baby!!!

The grand slam does not even sound fun right now, you are a crazy little runner girl!!! :)

Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

From Teena on Wed, Dec 02, 2009 at 21:19:41 from 174.52.45.85

Oh SSF!!! You are such a cool grandma!!!

Can't believe you are going to Slam it again!!! Wait a second, yes I can!!!

Love and miss you so so so much!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 02, 2009 at 22:52:46 from 71.52.65.202

Scott ~ Thanks! I hope the parents are having a GREAT time as well.

Leslie ~ I tended my first grandchild for two years right after she was born b/c her mommy was going to grad. school. People thought I was her mother. That was 7 years ago and I was overweight then. My daughter and I are now about the same size. If people don't look at my face, they'd think I'm the baby's mother.

Hey SSF ~ WRC made the Slam entry by lottery now b/c of its popularity. Apparently I'm NOT the only nut-job in Utah. I figure I'll still run most of the Utah marathons anyway whether I'm in the Slam or not.

I love you and miss you terribly! Hope you're doing well with all your busyness!
