Long-Term Running Goals:

Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

 One week post stress fracture.

Survived the first week of boot imprisonment!!!  There's only so much I could do with the boot on.  Got on the elliptical with a Netflix documentary for 90 min. at the lowest incline and easiest resistance.  The foot was NOT happy afterwards! :(  Shopping at Costco and Walgreen in the afternoon did not help either.  Am glad tomorrow is Sunday, a true day of rest!  :)

Happy to report that hubby ran the entire 2.25 miles block without a single walk break!!!!  WAHOO!!!!  He reached his goal in just 2 weeks!  SO PROUD of him! :) :) :)  I know just what to get him for Father's Day! :)

I'm sorry you are confined to a boot. My daughter has a broken leg and needs surgery and the first thing she asked the doctor was will I be able to run again and he said yes. I'm glad that running is such a part of our lives. Good luck on your recovery.

The boot! AWWWWW! Good job being faithful with that big thing and trying to stay healthy.

It is so fun that you can cheer for your hubby and the great job he is doing with running.

Smooth, I know this has just got to be the hardest thing you've had to go through in the past 5 years. You're being smart, and will be back stronger, smoother, and faster! Way to go, Larry! (tell him I said "Way to go!")

I'm SO excited for Larry! But, it stinks that as he is going forward you have to sit and watch and can't go with him :( dumb foot. I hate that even in the boot you end up with pain still. Maybe some more cookies? :)

Thinking of you and your smile Smooth. Hope you are having a good Sunday. :)

Smooth - You need to get off that foot and give it some TLC and time to heal or your just going to repeat the misery!

Take a break and get well. This looks like you'll be giving up some of your running schedule forward. This will be a good time to support Larry as he has supported you!!!!!

Larry - Good on you man. This is so neat that you are out getting in some street time on your own two feet! Just remember to start really slow and easy and gradually increase to your goal.

And if there is anything I can do or say to help you on your way, let me know. I'd love to be of service!

Go Larry go!

Smooth, How about some EASY biking if you just can't stand to stand still? Many years ago when my foot was in a cast, I found easy bike rides were easy on my foot but kept me out and about.

From Rhett on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 10:30:38 from 38.73.137.152

Smooth, I'm looking forward to seeing you, Larry, and everyone else. I hope your foot is feeling a bit better.

From Smooth on Sun, Jun 10, 2012 at 00:09:11 from 174.27.212.157

THANK YOU everyone for checking in on me, for your well wishes and for cheering on my sweet hubby.

I have been a bad blogger. I do check your blogs regularly. It's been hard not able to run. Didn't help that I haven't done any exercise in any shape or form.

I did have an enjoyable vacation visiting my son and his cute family in Cleveland, sightseeing with them in Niagara Falls, Palmyra, Rochester and Kirtland. My legs and feet were sore from all the walking. But it was a wonderful distraction and so awesome to have my son, a podiatry residence took care of me.

Have been in the boot for three weeks. The stress fracture is healing even though I can still feel a tug there and some throbbing ache at times.

Hope y'all enjoying your run and best wishes with all your running endeavors. LUVS! :)
