Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Careful not to get blisters running on the treadmill. Have you named the hawks? My first soccer team name was the eagles, my second, the hawks. :)

From RAD on Wed, Aug 04, 2010 at 15:46:19 from 67.172.229.125

I hope those hawks don't start recognizing you! They may realize that if they all work together they could fly off with you! :)

Nice work Smooth, love your consistency in running and x-training! Keep up your good work.

Great run Smooth. How did the feet feel after the barefoot run? I've been dreaming about my first real run which I will attempt soon. I'm thinking that if I ran barefoot, I may run lighter on my feet and reduce impact that could injure my leg, but I also bought a pair of super cushioned shoes that maybe I'll wear. What do you think?

From Smooth on Wed, Aug 04, 2010 at 18:34:02 from 174.23.218.43

Rhett ~ The feet felt great during the run and now 8 hrs later still feel good. I've only ran barefoot on soft surface, i.e. grass, astro turf and treadmill. It felt so light and free. The feet really is an ingenious creation of leverage and shock aborbant.

As for your first real run, I think it's worth a try to run a very short distance on bare foot. I think barefoot running strengthens the muscles and tendons of the feet and ankle. An efficient runner like you would love it!

You are a very intelligent runner and very in tune with your body...whatever you choose to run on/with will be right for you!

GOOD LUCK!!! I can't wait to hear how your run goes!

i bet your wave to the hawks made their day.

nice job, smooth.

Nice runs up there with all the wildlife. All of our wildlife must be indoors looking for A/C.

From Nancy on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 13:59:30 from 76.27.19.206

I think the hawks are going to start watching for you every day so don't disappoint them. Great run.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 14:34:18 from 71.219.102.155

Those hawks are your new friends! EVERYONE, human or creature, can not help but LOVE you.

From Doone on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 16:38:05 from 74.36.34.151

I had to reread your entry several times to realize that you actually ran barefoot on the treadmill. Cool!! I have always wondered what that is like and if anyone had tried it. Were you at the gym? Were people staring at you? It sounds like something I think I will try in the future.

Great run in great conditions. Can't wait to see you in Pokie.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 18:23:17 from 71.219.102.155

I have done the barefoot at the gym---no one stares but people do ask why! It feels nice!!! I do wear socks.

From Smooth on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 21:44:26 from 174.23.203.161

Paul ~ Those are cool team names! Any suggestions what to name *my* three hawks? Soar, Glide, Arial...?

Rachel ~ You are so dang cute!

allie ~ Those hawks made MY day! Made me want to FLY on my run! :)

Flat ~ TOO FUNNY! I think the humans here in Utah are doing the same thing!

Nancy ~ Good thinking! Last year couple of big black birds dive-bombed me. But with the hawks' presence, I haven't seen any pesty black birds or seagulls. Hawks are great to catch the mice in the fields too! I need to give them names, any suggestions?

Kelli ~ You say the kindest things to me! It is you whom everyone can't help but LOVE and adore!

Doone ~ I am not a gym goer! It was in the privacy of my basement. The very reason I don't go to gym is the fear of people staring...too intimidating!

If you have read "Born to Run", you'd be convinced to run barefoot. I don't think I will run a marathon barefoot. However, I love the feel of running barefoot on "safe surfaces". And yes, on the treadmill I wear socks...I don't want to get blisters. But on grass and sand, my feet are naked! :)

I am not nearly as cute or lovable! NOT NEARLY!!!
