Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

A winter trip to St. George in January sounds nice. I wonder if I can talk my wife into that one.

From Steam8 on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 20:58:06 from 166.70.55.77

I wish I could run like you. I would end up with two broken legs and more stress fractures in my feet! You are made to run Smooth and you are so fun to run with too! Are you running Boston this year?

From Rachelle on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 21:22:52 from 66.7.127.115

Lots of fun races! I am trying to decide what to do too. I am running Del Sol Ragnar in February and probably the shamrock half in March. Gotta have motivation to keep us going during these winter months. :)

From Smooth on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 23:29:12 from 174.27.205.151

Chad ~ I am certain your wife will love sunny St. George in Jan. Just DO EET!!!

Steamer ~ You will not have any of that injury stuff if you run like me! In fact, you will do awesome.

Yes, I am running Boston 2012. It will be my 5th consecutive Boston. Already got my hotel room, just need to book the flights. I am so excited that you're gonna be there! You will LOVE Boston.

Rachelle ~ Amen! Sounds like you've got some fun races lined up!

From RAD on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 23:58:26 from 98.202.23.178

My vote: come do the indoor 'marathon' on 12/31 with Becca and I (tentatively this is the plan). You can get an extra marathon in this year!! Then the SG half, TX marathon (I'm sure you'll be with family for this one!), then Spectrum 10K and Riverton half. Yes, I'll be there - if you were wondering :) (except the TX one, but I figure you'll have a good time there!)

From RAD on Tue, Nov 29, 2011 at 23:59:22 from 98.202.23.178

Oh wait! Changed my mind! You can help me run 32 miles for my 32nd birthday on Feb 15th - no traveling to TX and no entry fee!! Plus good company. I'll even buy donuts :)

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 00:04:01 from 174.27.205.151

RAD ~ I'd love to run the Oval *marathon* with you and Bec. But we have a wedding luncheon that day. What time is that indoor run starting at? Are you really gonna run 104 laps? Is there registration fee or do we just pay the oval entrance fee?

I will run Riverton Half if I don't do the Buffalo run. Not sure about Spectrum since my friends really want to do the Lake to Lake Relay and I don't want to spend the money for a 3rd SG trip.

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 00:07:04 from 174.27.205.151

How about I come cheer you on your 32 miler on your birthday and I bring Cold Stone Cake! :)

From RAD on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 00:15:58 from 98.202.23.178

There is a fee, it is a 'race' of sorts. You just have 4 hours (8-noon) to do as many laps as you can. The more you run, the more prizes you qualify for. More fun than anything. Minimal fee though.

I don't blame you on the SGM trips! I'd love to get out of Spectrum and do a different race. Hotel prices are HIGH that weekend. If you need an extra team member on lake to lake - let me know, maybe I'll swing it with you :)

From AmberG on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 01:02:47 from 209.33.238.101

Smooth and RAD::::

I have an extra bedroom at my house (St.George) and I don't charge NEAR what the hotels do for that weekend :) In fact, I don't even charge~!!!! Seriously I love company! come stay with me! THe only catch is you have to share a room with my treadmill, but I'm certain any runner wouldn't mind that right? (I also have a toy room that loves company too, the more the merrier) I won't buy anyone donuts, but I'll provide sugar cookies ;)

That being said, I vote St.George half, Lake to Lake, and Spectrum 10k :)

P.S. Thanks for stopping in on my blog :) you are a sweetie!

From catherine on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 01:13:31 from 98.202.112.51

Buffalo run! I think Eric and I (and Elliott) will be there.

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 01:19:09 from 174.27.205.151

Amber ~ You are so kind and sweet! How can I turn down the offer of room with a treadmill or toys with NO charge and sugar cookies too!!! So are you running ALL three?!!! I remember meeting you and your darling family first time in persons at Spectrum years ago! :) :) :)

RAD ~ OK, I'll have to see how NYE goes. The fam usually goes skiing but not this year due to the wedding luncheon so may be I can sneak off to run in the oval.

I will keep you in mind for Lake to Lake. There are 4 of us (Carolyn, Karen, Wendy and I) committed, a fifth girl hasn't been running so she's the wild card.

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 01:23:01 from 174.27.205.151

Catherine ~ you and Eric gonna run Buffalo with Elliottt in tow? WOW!!! :) :) :) Which distance are you planning?

O man, if I choose all those runs in March, that is almost every single weekend! Not sure if hubby will buy that! :)

From Maynard on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 01:44:50 from 71.213.11.70

Buffalo Run.

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 01:58:40 from 174.27.205.151

Hey there Bradley!!! :) So have you signed up for Buffalo? What distance? I checked out Jim Skagg's description of the course. (He's so funny!) Looks like the 50 miler has less of elevation gain than the 50K. Is the 50K course technical?

From Maynard on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 02:03:07 from 71.213.11.70

The 50k is the 25k course twice so you do all the hills and stuff double. I considered the 50M for that very reason--I hate having to do the whole thing over again. But I don't know that I'm ready--or would be--to do 50 miles in March. I don't know that there is really any technical sections to the course. I signed up for the 50k. Jim is a hoot. And the buffalo stew at the end is AWESOME!

From Maynard on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 02:05:06 from 71.213.11.70

...maybe I should have signed up for the 50 miler...

From Smooth on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 02:13:06 from 174.27.205.151

I am sure Jim will change it for you if you ask now. March 24 is a long time away. You will be ready! :)

From Maynard on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 02:41:33 from 71.213.11.70

Maybe I will! =) What race are you going to run if you end up on Antelope Island on March 24th?

From allie on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 13:25:45 from 161.38.218.168

i've never done the running from an angel, but i did do the running with the devil (same RD). she is awesome and she knows how to put on a great/fun race.

From RAD on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 16:32:41 from 98.202.23.178

Amber, you are SO generous! If I get away for a weekend without the family parade for one of the races I may just have to take you up on that offer! I'd love to hang out and get to know you well. I've been a bad blogger - I need to check in on how you are healing!!

From Steam8 on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 16:54:50 from 166.70.55.77

I'm thinking St. George half might be fun! :)

From Nancy on Wed, Nov 30, 2011 at 20:33:00 from 76.23.21.118

At first when I looked at your blog I thought you were doing all those runs and I couldn't imagine doing that many in such a short time frame. But it wouldn't surprise me if you did them all.

From flatlander on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 12:56:18 from 64.129.54.210

Only 7 races before Boston? Are you retiring?

From The Quiet Pirate on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 13:27:58 from 152.26.59.252

Smooth- your run sounds devine! And looking at all the racing possibilities just gets me excited!! The krispy kreme challenge is in Feb if you're up for 3 miles and a dozen donuts :-0

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 13:29:37 from 205.158.160.209

Buffalo run. :)

From catherine on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 13:45:53 from 98.202.112.51

Smooth - Eric will either do the 50k or 25k (he's done the 50k the last 2 years but hasn't been training), and I'll do the 25k (I don't love running up mountains/hills). Elliott will just be waiting for us at the finish - there's no way either of us are going to push her up those switchbacks. :)

From Bec on Thu, Dec 01, 2011 at 13:58:00 from 68.206.133.141

Orphan Hope Marathon? WHAT????? If you do that one I will be at the start with you, PROMISE. Where is it at in TX?

I say come and run that marathon at the Oval with RAD and I as well.

The Angel Marathon sounds cool too.

From JulieC on Fri, Dec 02, 2011 at 20:07:54 from 70.56.109.75

Smooth it would be great to see you at Painters (I won an entry at SGM expo) and Spectrum 10 k. Amber's office sounds like running heaven, donuts and a tm to burn them off on. : D

From Smooth on Sun, Dec 04, 2011 at 00:41:46 from 174.27.205.151

Maynard ~ I think I will do the 25K if I decide to run the Riverton 1/2 the following week.

allie ~ running from an angel is the exact same course as running with the devil; the angel in the winter, the devil in the summer. Looks like a pretty hilly course which is what I need while training for Boston. I agree that the RD is pretty good at organizing these races. I ran one of her races (Hoover Dam) couple years ago. It was very well organized fun small race.

Nancy ~ thanks! no way I'm running 2 out of states marathons in Feb. I'm just putting these on the calendar to see how they fit into my training schedule for Boston. I won't have a wedding or son leaving for mission next year so...

flat ~ you made me laugh! :)

QP ~ I've heard about the Krispy Kreme challenge. very tempting...NOT! You doing it?

Scott ~ :)

catherine ~ hmmm, now I'm not sure if I can run up and down mountains and hills. May be I should volunteer instead! :)

Bec ~ Orphan Hope is at Huntsville State Park in Hunstville, TX, about 90 min. drive northwest of Kingwood where Larissa lives. Kingwood is close to Houston. Got to find an excuse to see my grandkids. I'd love it if you'd come.

I'd like to join you and RAD at the Oval if I can swing it; but I will not be running too many laps especially if I'm gonna run the Angel Marathon the following week. :)

Julie ~ It was fun to see you at Painter's last year (err I mean this year). It would be great to see you bring home hardware again next year! :)
