Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

All that sitting and car trip yesterday made everything stiff and sore.  Woke up feeling like death warmed over.  Forced myself to run and did some stretching.

TT: 49:39.  AP: 9:27.  I seem to be stuck at 9:32 pace these days/weeks.  So at the last 0.25 mile I sprinted at sub-8 to bring down the AP...very silly of me!

20 min. resistance band exercises for arms and legs and added the X-walk Teena showed me for the ITBs.  Stretch and roll some...ouch!!!

***On a side note, my 5th child is coming home from his mission in Brazil in two weeks!!!!  I am SOOO EXCITED!!!***  Also, my first grandchild is getting baptized tomorrow!  A shout out to Jade!!! :) :) :)

Where in Brazil is your son? My son just got his call to the Brazil Porto Alegre north mission.

From Smooth on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 14:09:08 from 174.23.172.155

He is in the Joao Pessoa Mission, in northeast Brazil.

CONGRATULATIONS to your son's call! It is such a blessing to have a son/daughter on a mission, the best thing in the world for these outstanding young people to serve the Lord full time! When is he reporting to the Sao Paulo MTC?

From Scott Wesemann on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 16:04:57 from 66.239.250.209

Hey Smooth, I hope everything is going well for you. What exactly is the X-Walk? I would like to try it. Hope you have a great weekend.

From Smooth on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 16:10:58 from 174.23.172.155

Scott ~ You use resistance band for this. Step in the band with feet shoulder width apart. Hold the band handle crisscross in front of you to make enough tension/resistance (thus the X). Than walk straight legged. You can feel it in the ITBs. Hope you have a great weekend too!

From Scott Wesemann on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 16:12:08 from 66.239.250.209

Sounds good. I think I will go pick up a band this weekend. Thanks!

From RAD on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 16:42:59 from 67.172.229.125

I'm glad you got some sub-average miles in (even if it was with a sprint at the end...we are a bit crazy aren't we? :) ).

SO excited for all the fun stuff coming up these next couple weeks for you!!

Scott, I ditto the ITB band walk. I have a small band that goes just around my feet (unstretched it is about 4 inches long, obviously it is 8 around since you'd double it to lay it 'flat'). Either way, my PT gave me the same exercise, but with this small band wrapped around my feet and it is EXCELLENT! I feel like I look like I'm walking just after I peed my pants :) Simply because your feet/legs have to keep the band stretched so they never touch. Kind of comical as everyone stares at you in the gym, but VERY good for the ITB!!

Rachel ~ It's busy fun especially since I get to run a marathon in the middle! :)

Sounds like you have a few exciting things going on in the near future!!! Love the idea of the missionary coming home...GOTTA LOVE THAT!!!!!

I think enjoying your slouch in the 9:30's will help you recover yourself. We are going to take UVM super-t-duper-t easy. If you want to run it with me and CAth on a joy ride, let me know. We're planning 10 m/m

My son is reporting to the Sao Paulo MTC on October 13, so he has a little bit of time to wait. I'm excited for him, I love to see how missions change these young men, help them grow up and mature, plus they are doing a great thing by preaching the gospel.

From Nancy on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 22:08:33 from 76.27.19.206

Congratulations on the son coming home and the grandchild being baptized, they are both exciting and joyful events. Is Utah Valley your next Marathon? Good Luck with all your running.

From Kelli on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 23:10:56 from 71.219.93.114

You have had a CRAZY busy week little lady! Take care of yourself and get some rest so you can enjoy the baptism and the family!!!

From Smooth on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 23:15:47 from 174.23.172.155

Kimmy ~ Bryan has had some really neat experience. We are so excited to see him on June 18. My daughter and three grandkids are coming home from TX the very next day!

Cheryl ~ Bryan is our 4th son serving mission. We have one more son who will go a year from now. Your son will love the people and have wonderful mission experience. I bet he can hardly wait for Oct.

Nancy ~ Yes, Utah Valley is my next marathon. Looking forward to seeing lots of friends running that one.

Luz ~ Sounds like a good deal if you don't mind me tag along. I love to run with you and Cath. can't wait to see you!

From Smooth on Fri, Jun 04, 2010 at 23:40:32 from 174.23.172.155

Kelli ~ Unfortunately I'm not going to her baptism in TX. They will be here in two weeks. I hate missing my first grand daughter's baptism...but airfare is $514 and we've already spent the $ for their airfare yo come! I will enjoy having my family home, all but Eric will be here. Very sweet!!!

From LuzyLew on Sat, Jun 05, 2010 at 00:00:21 from 69.169.167.157

It's a date. I'll PM you later in the week to coordinate a little.

From Kelli on Sat, Jun 05, 2010 at 00:09:47 from 71.219.93.114

OH, you had so much family in town and stuff I thought maybe they were here!!!
