Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Had to hurry to get'er done.  Not much of a warm up, just ran downhill first, then uphill for the first 3 miles.  Made it home in time to shower and off to meetings.  Now I am tired. Will do some stretches later.

WOW!! Nice job on that pace lady! Enjoy the hurried day.

From Kathie on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 14:34:32 from 207.155.176.10

Some days it is the most we can ask for just to get the miles in. I have told people I can come to the meeting at that time but I will come stinky...if you want me to come not smelling you will need to change the time. Most of the time they do when they have not they have suffered to consequences!

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 14:42:41 from 71.219.74.247

See, you are fast. You did not mention anything about puking!!!

Hope you had a great day!

From Teena on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 14:50:33 from 67.177.20.13

Nice job Smoothie!!!

Not only did you not mention puking, you did not mention the IT band. I hope that means that it was a non-issue.

See you tomorrow!!! :)

Rachel,

I need a new mantra:"hurry getter'done, faster I run, sooner I'm done."

Kathie,

I might ask to have my meetings move to Wed. for the summer so that I can get my runs done on Tue and Thurs. It doesn't help that I won't have a car on Tue and Thur. I sweat like a pig AFTER I run so I HAVE to jump in the shower immediately or I can't even stand my own self.

Kelli,

The puking will be on Sat. I HATE 5Ks....arrggghhh!

Teena,

NO ITB pain during the run. Hope it doesn't show up later. Have got to do some icing, stretching and rolling this afternoon. A ton of church stuff to do. Not going to the temple since I don't have a car, stink! See you tomorrow. LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL

Augh Smoothie ~ if Saturday is going to be your puke pace then it's a good thing you have short hair!!!! Looking forward to seeing you again :)

From Rhett on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 16:45:32 from 170.215.58.122

So did you run uphill first or downhill first? Either way you finished with some smokin' fast miles. I'm expecting a speedy fast 5K on Saturday.

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 16:59:03 from 71.35.211.1

Rhett,

Downhill first, about 1.4 mile long. The uphill is a little shorter but greater elevation gain. At mile 3.1, my Garmin read 27:03. I don't think I'll get a PR on Sat. If I run a sub-25, I'd be happy.

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 17:39:41 from 67.42.27.114

Nice workout. Good luck Sat.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:13:33 from 71.219.74.247

What 5k are you all doing?

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:17:33 from 71.35.211.1

The Nestle Art City 5K in Springville. I'm going for the raffle.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:20:30 from 71.219.74.247

YEAH FOR RAFFLES!!!! Sasha would DIE if he heard that, so I am shouting it as loud as I can (not that I want him to die, just that I want him to know that it is okay to LIKE the raffle!!!)

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:25:09 from 71.35.211.1

Just to name a few of the raffle prizes: Little Giant Ladders, mountain bikes, BBQ grills, gift cards to Macy (the grocery store), Home Depot, gas station,a night stay at a hotel. The entry fee was $8 before May 23. It's $11 by today. Part of the entry fee goes to some charity too. They also had good refreshment afterwards. It's a popular 5K with lots of families.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:31:06 from 71.219.74.247

Ah, now I am tempted to run it!!!

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 18:59:13 from 71.35.211.1

Come run it!

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 19:01:46 from 71.219.74.247

I have never run a 5k. I am not good at short distances and i am terrified of failure. It would be like last night on "So You Think You Can Dance" where the shining starts got sent home early for disappointing performances!

PLUS, it is the last week of soccer!!! YEAH.

I am going to send all of my good vibes your way so you can win a great raffle prize!

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 19:08:37 from 71.35.211.1

YEAH for last week of soccer!

I HATE 5Ks!!! It HURTS!!! I can count in one hand how many 5Ks I've run in my whole life.

I have never won any raffle prize either. THANKS for sending the vibes. If I win the BBQ grill, you can have it and we can have BBQ party at your house.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 19:30:51 from 71.219.74.247

You are on! Then Scott will not singe all of the hair off of his arm every time he lights the BBQ!!!

We signed up to run the 5k in Provo on the 4th of July. BUT I am running with my kids, so it does not count as a race. Then I can not fail!

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 19:39:03 from 71.35.211.1

LOL! Poor Scott. I'd better win the grill for him. :) Hey, what does he want for Father's Day?

Good thinking using your kids for failure-proof. Whatever! You are so FAST! I highly doubt you will fail at any race any distance.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 19:43:33 from 71.219.74.247

One of these days I will get the courage to run a 5k. But they really do scare me. It takes me a long time to warm up and feel good. AND my kids love to run them, so for now I will run with them.

Our grill is not that old, but for some reason it will not light. This year Scott wants some Sunday clothes that fit (he has lost too much weight) and an edger for the lawn. He is so practical!

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 20:00:55 from 71.35.211.1

You will have so much more fun running with your kids!!! My kid is too fast for me. Besides he wouldn't want to run with me. Stinky teenager. May be one day I can run 5ks with my grandkids.

I know what Larry wants for Father's Day. But I'm not getting it, not even for Christmas, not birthday. He will get a white Sunday shirt as usual. I'm so mean!
