Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Hey you are swimming now! I think cross training is the best way to stay injury free...good for you!

From DonGardinero on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 00:04:54 from 152.216.7.5

Wow, Smoothie, you never stop, do you? Great job on the cross training.

From MarcE on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 00:08:04 from 24.155.140.8

Hey, nice picture. Is that from UVM? That short-sleeved Boston shirt is pretty cool..I might have to try to find one online.

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 00:32:04 from 71.36.79.7

Kathie,

I wasn't really swimming. I used a kick board to kick across the pool...swam with my head under water. I don't know how to breath. It was pretty pathetic. I need to take lessons.

Dale,

I wanted to run today...but hubby and son advised me NOT to. The quads are still a little tight for running.

Marc,

That picture was from Ogden when I "pretend" to be running. The Boston shirt is an Adidas, the Adistar line. I really like the fabric, it's soft and stretchy. It's supposed to have UV protection and odor control. It's pretty pricey $52. I only wear it in marathons. Larry loves it 'cause he can spot me better.

A little tight, that is not bad! Great job today!!!

From Bec on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 01:20:50 from 67.177.35.60

You are CRAZY!!! Get some RnR!

From RAD on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 01:27:08 from 67.166.99.8

Nice recovery Smoothie! Only tight quads, that's amazing. Swimming is great recovery, and its fun to STAY wet sometimes :)

From leslie peterson on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 10:44:13 from 76.23.61.78

You don't miss a beat, glad you are feeling so good, tight quads are a given. Rest up for this weekend!!

From MrsFIT on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 11:26:06 from 24.2.68.35

Way to add "iron" into your workout. Careful though, you'll have bigger guns than Huans if your not careful :D

From Rhett on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 12:32:11 from 170.215.58.122

Nice recovery work Smooth. Keep at it all week so you'll be ready for this weekend.

From Teena on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 13:47:52 from 67.177.20.13

YOU SWAM!!!! :) :) :)

I am so proud of you!! :) :) :)

(Kickboard or no kickboard!!!)

I LOVE YOU!!!!

How do you feel today???

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 14:51:35 from 71.36.79.7

Kelli,

That little tightness became BIG today! STINK!

Bec,

Guilty as charged!!! But I don't know how to bike or swim or spin or dance like you do for RnR!!!

Rachel,

Recovery is still the mode here. You had an AWESOME race on Sat. How are you feeling today?

Leslie,

You are SO RIGHT about resting up for this weekend. YIKES! These old legs are pathetic.

Kristi,

No guns here...just flabby Relief Society arms. When one is not running, one has plenty of time to "flab" around.

Rhett,

I think that's what I'll do. No running to let the legs heal.

Teena,

I kept thinking about the little tips on breathing and legs kicking you told me the other day. I really should take swimming lessons. Good thing there were only 2 little boys (9 and 6 yr. old) in my neighbor's pool at the time; and they didn't laugh at me. At one point, I "accidentally" drifted to the deep end and panicked, the little 9 year old helped me tip-toed back. :)

Today felt worse than yesterday. Should have listened to Eric on NO running this week. LOVE YOU!!!

Marathon pain is weird that way, it jumps up and bites you just when you think it is gone.
