Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Ran w/ Karen (Sky) to Alpine.  Stopped at *fountain of youth* for first drink; then north and east to mile 7, turned back to gu at *fountain of youth* (mile 9).  The bathroom at the park was LOCKED!!!  Thought I could make it to the church, another 2 miles away...nope!...had to make a VPB stop behind a giant rock and leave-bare-bushes!  Karen was laughing so hard at my dire-emergency!  :) :) :)

It was a nice chatty run, very slow!  That's the longest Karen has ever run and first time taking gu which she really likes.  She is going to run Salt Lake City Marathon as her first marathon.  This girl is tough and gutsy!  This means our training schedule will match more closely and able to do our long runs together.  Only bad part is I won't be able to run her first marathon with her as I will be flying out to Boston that morning!

My knee was sore yesterday later in the day and evening.  It was fine during the run so I am icing it now (after shopping and in b/t errands).  I am hopeful that I can resume training on a scaled down version...79 days to Boston!  Aaagghhh!!!

Baby Emi is such a delight!  Her daddy is driving here, hopefully beating the storm!  I am so excited that they will spend February with us!  HAPPY TIMES!!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Great run Smooth. I enjoyed reading about your B-stop! I bet Karen was laughing at you a little. In no time she will understand that those kinds of stops are rather common among us running folk.

That's cool that you get Emi for a month. Lucky grandma. Get your knee better! Massage that thing.

Glad to hear the knee did well during today's run! You take care as I know you will and Boston will be FINE!!!!

Scott is running SLCity, too. I think he is nuts. It is way too hard. Tell Karen good luck!

It sounds like you had a great run. Using the rocks for a rest stop reminded me of times years ago when I had to use a bush or two for a potty break.

Bec ~ Karen was laughing so hard! Then I told her horror stories of people justing "going" on the side of the road at marathons...at least I tried to find a bush!

Yes, I am one LUCKY nana! I am thoroughly enjoying Emi and her parents here this month!

Kelli ~ Are you running SLC? I don't know anything about SLC so I couldn't give Karen any advice. She was going to run UVM as her first but her oldest is getting married in May. SLC just fits better. With it being her first, she just wants to see if she could finish 26.2. She will probably run UVM 1/2 and a few races then gear for a good SGM.

SSF ~ THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I was sooooooo happy to see you...it made my knee feel 90 times better already! :) I LOVE YOU!

I can't wait to hear about the good news!

Nancy ~ I rarely have to make an emergency VPB stop in my 5+ years of running. It's just ironic that it happened on Karen's very first long run and I'm supposed to be the *seasoned* runner telling her what to do in regard to training the bladder! :)

Kellies ~ Thanks! I am so excited for your baby girl coming to your family AND you are running prego faster than me! :)

Marc ~ What do you expect! I am a granny who has had SIX children! Sorry for TMI...you're the only boy commenting here! When it comes to VPB, guys are soooo LUCKY!!!

allie ~ I always picture you taking a sip from the fountain of youth in your xc days at Lone Peak every time I drink from it! :)

I am not running it, nope. Scott is. I may run some of the last part with him or just be a rambunctious crowd member with my kids. I have the 50 miler the next weekend, so I could not do both.

I have only ever run the SLC Half. I loved it, but I hear it is the GOOD part of the full course!
