Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Temp was *can see your breath and frosty lawn* type of coldness.  Ran easy with Karen, Wendy and Carolyn.  Karen had to cut it short...her left knee still bothering her. :(

When I got home the workers were already here.  Hardwood guy, Larry, here to finish the last 12'x4' floor from fitness room to the french door.  Reggie here to hang the 2 bathroom doors and double bedroom door.  Doors are gonna be funky b/c hubby doesn't want the door covering up the beautiful cabinets.  The doors will stay open most of the time so have to live with it.  Reggie has to cut off bottom of the door frames so won't have this humongous gap between the doors and the floor.

SSF ~ I miss Rylee. She is growing up so fast and I haven't seen her like forever! :)

Kelli ~ We are expanding the bedroom while remodeling the bathroom...so the area that was the bedroom is turning into an exercise area that is dubbed fitness room. It is just an extension of the bedroom so hubby has no excuse not to exercise. Of course we will have a party but I have to make sure the bed is made and give Larry lots of warning! :)

It has been very stressful but the end is in sight. Hopefully by Halloween! hehe! :)

Oh! I will probably sign up next Mon. Wendy has agreed to crew me. Lowell is committed to run it with Terry as co-crew. I am kinda scared, as I've never run that many miles before and have no clue if I'm even trained for it. Please please please send me some advise and words of wisdom. I just hope I can finish! :) Is Scott gonna start at 8am?

I'd say you are fully trained to run 50 miles. You run marathon after marathon without too many problems. I was signed up to run the 50, but I'm nowhere near being trained, so I dropped out. You'll do great, I'm sure.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!! I am excited to see you. I wonder if he will have you do the early start or not.

My only advice: find a way to eat REAL food while you are running!!! I think that really hurt me, gels were not enough. Other than that, just keep it nice and easy and keep the legs moving! If you stop too long, it is really hard to get going again.

So what kind of REAL food do you recommend packing?

I am basing this solely on what I have seen running the ultras and volunteering at them, but I think the key is bringing something that your stomach can tolerate and that you like!!!

Here are my suggestions: peanut m&ms or pretzel m&ms, pretzels or chips, some kind of gummie candy (swedish fish is what we will bring), boiled potatoes and salt to dip them in, fruit (strawberries and pineapple were the favorites), pb&j sandwiches, a sweet bread (like pumpkin or banana or cinnamon), AND a biggie was broth with noodles (like top ramen).

Really, I think anything that you like will be good!!! Make sure you bring some s-caps to take as well. The cramping issues is CRAZY at 50 miles. Even I cramped and I never cramp!!!!

I am hoping you start early, then I know I will see you for sure!!!
