Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Third attempt to climb Suncrest failed.  Excuses?  Let's see:  #1 - snow (albeit light) & gray sky,  #2 - low on fuel,  #3 didn't want to trash the quads and knees.  So, did the best I could, almost identical to last Thursday's run.

Warm up 2 mi ~ 18:57

Hills 3 mi ~ 26:53

Tempo 3 mi @ Half-mp ~ 25:43

Tempo 3.1 mi @ 5K race pace ~ 23:12

Cool down 1.9 mi @ mp ~ 16:45

13 mi TT: 1:51:30.  AP: 8:35

5 min pre-run dynamic flexibility exercises.  Drank water at mile 5 and every 3 miles.  10 min post-run stretch.  May do core tonight while watching the Olympics.

The legs felt pretty good even at the 5K pace.  The shoulders got really tired so my form was sloppy.  I'm going to order some core workout dvds.

Inviting y'all to join us this Sat. at the Lehi JRP on 1500 N and about 2 miles west of State St. at 8 am.  Hope to see you there, rain or shine!!! :)

Amazing workouts, Smooth. I'm so excited to see your progress.

Very nice pace for 13 miles Smooth. My workout ball came with a DVD and I actually really like the exercises and workouts. That ball is fantstic.

Great workout Smooth. Impressive 5K sandwiched in there.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 19:40:20 from 174.23.239.148

Paul and Cal ~ THANKS!

Scott ~ What kind of workout ball do you have? What's the name of the ball and DVD? Where did you get it? Some of the DVDs I saw on-line like the P90X looks very intimidating to me!

From AmberG on Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 22:01:24 from 64.255.88.27

Holy Cow Smooth, what a week! You have done great, skiing, running like crazy, speedwork, and getting today's run over!

I love the p90x abs workout, , , it's only 15 min and it's totally do-able but a hard work out, don't be intimidated :) :) :) I bought my p90x set off craigs list for $50 - new in package - so worth it. I also love the stretching one and am yet to try the yoga, but I tried 1/2 of the plyometrics which i'm sure is wonderful to stay injury free!

i am tempted to drive up north to run long with you sat - - - - - - - - :) sounds like a blast! have so much fun!

(btw, i just looked on craigs list for slc and u can get p90x anywhere from $65-90)

Wow, Wow, Wow. How did you manage to sandwich a 5K in the middle of all that other stuff? You are amazing.

Nice run Smoothie! You are doing a GREAT job with this high mileage program, you listen to your body and treat it right. Keep up your amazing inspiration!

Oh, I'll meet you at JRP with my bike - I'll leave the baby seat on in case anyone needs a ride :)

Love the workout Smooth!

Very nice run Smooth. I can't believe you guys are still getting snow. It was 61 when I woke up this morning.

From Scott Wesemann on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 12:54:04 from 66.239.250.209

Smooth, I can't remember the name of it, but I can post that later. I got it at Big 5 Sports in American Fork for 11 bucks I think. It was one of the cheaper ones, but the guy at the store told me they are all pretty much the same (not sure if that is true). The DVD was just a bonus because it shows you a lot of workouts with the ball and it was so cheap. Nothing intimidating in there and definitely for a beginner I think. If you want to know the brand let me know and I'll get it for you. It works really well.

After a run like that you don't need to make any excuses!

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 19, 2010 at 16:36:05 from 174.23.239.148

Amber ~ Thanks for the tips. I will check out craigslist. That's so much cheaper than what I saw on the official website. I was going to order Mcmillan's core work. But they are $30 for ONE dvd plus shipping and don't have yoga.

autieem ~ I am terrified of racing a 5K; so I thought may be this would help?

Rachel ~ Are you really going to bring your bike? That would be AWESOME!

Rhett ~ I'm jealous!

Scott ~ Yes, tell me what it's called. I wonder if they still have it at Big 5.

Lyman ~ Thanks for the validation! :)

I agree with everyone. You are running so well. I think you for sure will run your PR at Boston. Great job!!
