Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Very tired this morning.  Didn't want to run.  Kelli's awesome workout yesterday inspired me to JUST DO IT!  I'm thinking my next training cycle of running 3 days a week will work better.  My legs will have a day of recovery and the running will not be so stale.

Ran 4.5 sluggish miles.  Saw a girl who used to live in my ward.  Ran with her some.  It's getting very warm.   I think I will run UVM like I did DesNews last year, similar conditions.

I love the Nike Slogan. Very simple but very fitting (and effective too).

Great job!

I absolutely love everything about the FIRST training program (ie. running 3 days a week)! The eagerness I feel for each run, the "freshness" in my legs and the cross training it allows on the other 2 days is unmatched in my opinion. I think you'll really like it. Let me know if you have any questions, I've been using FIRST for over a year now!

Pres. Kimball slogan. :)

What will you do the other days...yoga, spin. I run 5 days a week but two of the runs are very easy followed by cross training and weights.

From Dale Gardiner on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 14:34:52 from 75.162.169.112

Glad you were able to get in a short run.

From Rachel Anne Moody on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 15:32:44 from 67.166.99.8

Nice job Smooth! Running 3 days a week can't be bad, good recovery. I've read some that says to get Quality miles over just quantity. I'd love to see how it works!

Cal,

I used to never pay attention to witty one-liner ad. Now I notice every ad. since my son became an underwriter for an advertising firm. It's hard to come up with fitting and effective ideas that really sells.

Kristi,

I'm gonna pick your brain. My weakness is that I don't know how to do anything else besides putting one foot in front of the other. I'm reading the book to understand how the program works. I hope it works for me.

RPaul,

Nike stole it from the Prophet! :)

Kathie,

I'm checking out the local rec. center. I think I'd like to find a spin class. My neighbor has a swimming pool. I want to learn how to swim. I'll definitely keep up with some strength training and the yoga. It's time for me to branch out a little. Can you teach an old gal new tricks?

Dale,

It was short...but felt long as I was really dragging it. It's such a mental thing. I need to change things a little to keep from getting stale.

From Susanna Lew on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 15:46:45 from 71.36.64.213

Rachel,

The FIRST program is hard. The 3 running days are: 1) speed interval at 5K race pace, 2)tempo run of 2-6 miles at 1/2 marathon race pace, 3) long runs of minimum 13 miles and lots of 20 milers. I will definitely need the rest days. I just don't know if I could do the Xtraining the FIRST program calls for. They call it 3PLUS2...3 running days plus 2 xtraining days.

From RAD on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 17:44:59 from 67.166.99.8

YIKES!! Less running, but definitely quality runs. Lots of 20 milers would take a lot of time...that's the worst part about long runs, I can't ever seem to get anything else done that day.

From Rhett on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 18:20:28 from 170.215.58.122

Nice run Smooth, glad you Just Did It.

From Kelli on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 19:35:33 from 71.219.98.183

Glad to be of service, Smooth!!! You are oding great. I am so excited to cheer you in next weekend! SO excited to NOT be running for once!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 21:45:30 from 71.36.65.222

Rachel,

I know what you mean. Poor hubby needs my help with our acre big yard.

Rhett,

Thanks. Sure glad you did your run today too. Hope the foot cooperates.

Kelli,

It will be a long wait for you. Thanks in advance. We need to do our temple/fun run/breakfast soon. Otherwise it would be a temple/walk for you and Teena while I "run"/breakfast.

From MarcE on Wed, Jun 03, 2009 at 21:48:36 from 24.155.140.8

That 3PLUS2 plan sounds like a great plan. The cross training can be anything active ... including helping Larry in the yard. :)

From MrsFIT on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 11:57:35 from 205.127.70.66

Any questions you have please don't hesitate to ask!!!!

From Smooth on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 13:50:18 from 71.35.211.1

Marc,

Shhhh...don't tell Larry that.

Kristi,

THANKS! I'm sure I'll have lots of questions when I get started on the program.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 04, 2009 at 14:29:01 from 71.219.74.247

I read the book for the FIRST program and decided it is way too hard core for me!!! You that can do it are AMAZING!!!!
