Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

18 WEEKS

Day 1 of 126 days 'till Boston!  I haven't quite made up my mind yet which of Pfitzinger's 18 week schedules to follow.  I am excited to begin training on a nice warm day w/ temp at 30, cloudy sky.  Wore l/s and thin fleece, shed the gloves after one mile.  Schedule calls for GA + speed (8 mi w/ 10 x 100m strides).  Not sure about the strides part depending on road condition.

Road had a mixture of snow, slush, ice, and icy puddles.  Did some pick ups along 3200 N where it's wide with stretches of clear pavement.   Had to run in the middle of the road (on the double yellow lines) along Bull River Rd.  Stepped in icy puddles (wet feet & ankels!!!), no getting around them, at some intersections where drainage was clogged up.   Hopefully the road dries up a bit the rest of the week.  AP: 9:39

Some tightness in left hip and ITB.

AM/PM Yoga!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK Y'ALL!!!!!

Hey SSF!!!

I started my 55/18 today! :) BUT ... I can't figure out what schedule you are following because that workout doesn't hit any of them in my book until next week. Maybe our books are different editions.

I have some hip strengthening exercises and stretches that are helping out with my ITB and hip ... remind me to show you them. Any chance you have a theraband?

Love you!

Good morning SSF!!!! NO CLASS this week, right? SO EXCITED you started the training today.

My book is the older edition. I've ordered the 2nd edition along w/ Born to Run. Should come in the mail any day now.

I do mix up the workouts to fit my week though.

I don't have a theraband. I'd love it if you can show me those hip and ITB strengthening exercises!

LOVE YOU!

Wow 18 weeks! I had better get to work! Boston is not my goal race this year Ogden is so I am not sure how/when to start training. Any ideas!

From Smooth on Mon, Dec 14, 2009 at 14:07:33 from 174.23.217.47

Hey Kathie ~

Ogden is just 26 days after Boston. You can start after the holidays. I'm signing up for Ogden today! I got an email from GOAL last week telling me they're 70% full!

Wow, 18 weeks! Really? I haven't even signed up the the SG 1/2 yet. I better get me rear in gear and do that. I have so many races (compared to my normal, not Smooth's) planned between now and Boston, it is hard to start focusing on Boston.

WOw, hard to believe it's time to start training for Boston.

Good run Smooth! Can't wait to see you progress in your training.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 15, 2009 at 19:26:08 from 174.23.217.47

Rhett~ Can't wait to see how you do in all your upcoming races!

Dale ~ Not exactly starting Boston training. It helps to know how many weeks I have and pencil in the races. I'm still formulating a training plan for Boston.

Leslie ~ This time of year is crazy busy. How are you? Miss you so much!

Vinh ~ Your racing season is starting while mine is dormant. I'm still thinking thru what my goals are for 2010.
