Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

My son is receiving his Temple endowment tomorrow.  Karen is taking her daughter for bridal dress fitting in Bountiful tomorrow.  So we changed things up and ran our long run this morning!  Karen (Sky) picked me up and we met Lori at the Lehi JRP after the kids were off to school.

Temp was in the high teens, cloudy, no wind, quite pleasant!  It was a nice day for a fun conversational run.  Lori runs like a gazelle.  Both Lori and Karen ran track in high school (800 meters).  Today's run was the longest distance either of them have ever run; however they have run half marathons.  Lori's knee started to hurt at mile 9, I showed her a few stretches.  She turned back at mile 12 while Karen and I went on.  It's a good thing she asked how far we've run or I would have kept going.  16.25 in 2:41:27.  AP: 9:55.

We saw geese, hawks, fox, cats, cows, horses, goats, llamas and a few walkers with their dogs and of course, my friend, Rick roller-blading!

Knee was fine once warmed up.  Will monitor closely.  There's going to be a house-full of young RMs tonight and tomorrow which means I'll be feeding lots of hungry boys! :)

Thinking of you and your son in the temple today. What a wonderful moment for a parent. I was at the temple with my sweetie last night. There is not a more amazing feeling than sitting there in the celestial room with your eternal companion. Have a great day. So glad your knee didn't bother you. Did you tape it up? If so tell me the secret taping method.

Wow, nice job this week Smooth! :) You are doing so well. I'm so glad you were able to enjoy a 16 miler. Don't they say that as long as the knee (or whatever else is causing problems) warms up and doesn't hurt later in the run then it's OK? If that's true, you should be fine. :)

From Smooth on Sun, Feb 06, 2011 at 21:32:39 from 67.2.113.127

allie & nancy ~ THANKS! it was a happy weekend indeed!

Rhett ~ Larry and I know and understand the feeling you described! You and Doone are so great to make the long trip to the temple!

My knee was fine throughout the run. It was just a bit tight the next morning when going down the stairs. I did not tape it. I would if I had pain before or after the run. I did lots of leg stretching and foam rolling Thurs night and was surprised how good the legs felt when I woke up Friday morning.

Kathie, Teena, Brooke ~ My legs are feeling fine today (Sunday, 2 days later); even the knee feels good. I think I might be good to resume training on Monday. I am going to be extra careful and conservative though. Goal is to make it to the start line healthy! :)

THANKS everyone for your support!
