Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Had to scrap my plan for Suncrest again...a low hanging cloud was hovering over the mountain and light snow falling on the bench.

2 miles warm up ~ 9:47, 9:31

4 miles hill ~ from 2.5% -10% incline (all at 9:05)

3 miles tempo ~ 8:43, 8:34, 8:20

3.1 miles @ 5K pace (7:30) Did this in 23:15 (10 sec shy of a 5K PR set 8 months ago)

0.9 mile cool down in 8:23 (7-6.2mph)

13 miles in 1:53:06  AP: 8:31

Hit puke zone with 1 mile to go during the 5K and the tummy started to cramp.  Thankfully all I had for breakfast was a yogurt.  Had to hurry shower and head to the temple.  Will stretch later.

Went to the temple with my friends of nearly 30 years, had lunch at the cafeteria.  Had hamburger soup (thick like chili w/ tomatoes, potatoes, corn, beans, carrots, all sorts of beans, tiny bit of hamburger, VERY yummy soup), a side dish of vegetables (broccoli, carrots, french-cut green beans, onions, mushrooms) and one whole wheat roll.   3 of the friends had dessert, keylime pie, apple cobbler w/ ice-cream, chocolate eclair.  I did not even feel tempted perhaps due to the stomach cramp from earlier.  But I was SOOOO hungry I could have eaten two bowls of soup! :)

how is it that you can run 13 miles, with hill and tempo and speed work, on just a yogurt in the morning? I would have boinked half way through!

From Cal on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 18:21:42 from 66.133.117.3

Another nice run for you Smooth. You're ahead of pace for 3000+ miles this year. Way to go!

From allie on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 18:23:21 from 129.123.241.83

this definitely qualifies as a Big Workout! great job.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 18:41:59 from 174.23.239.148

Lyman ~ I usually had more than a yogurt for breakfast. Was in a hurry this morning. I did drink lots of water and carb-loaded last night. But my stomach was growling up a thunder when I was in the temple. Should have grab a granola bar on the way.

Hey Cal ~ How are you? We miss you and your blogs. Hope you're doing well. Are you all done with the runner series? When/what is your next race?

Not sure about 3000 this year. The mileage will come down significantly after Boston.

allie ~ Thanks! I like the sound of that BW! :)

From Jon A on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 19:05:21 from 67.214.249.195

You are awesome. When are you thinking of running Suncrest? Kelly and I will be working our way up, walked most of the way last Sat. Ran 1.75 up last Monday. Will keep increasing distance. :-) Its a big hill.

From JulieC on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 19:11:54 from 70.58.47.2

SUPPEEEEERRRRRR SUPPPPPERRRRRR RRRRRRUNNNN!!!! Incredible. Must be that no sugar thing. Way to goooooo!! Your hill paces were awesome!!! Great 5K too. Hope you have eaten more by now?

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 19:14:04 from 174.23.239.148

Jon ~ I've been wanting to run all the way up this whole winter. I like to do it on one of my medium long run days which usually lands on T or Th. I might do it next Th if the weather co-operates and my knees are good. Yes, it's a big hill and it kicks my trash. I go real slow though.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 19:17:16 from 174.23.239.148

Julie ~ Thanks! You make me feel like a million bucks! I think that NO SUGAR thing is the key. I used to get so sleepy after workout and lunch.

Now that you mention "eat", I'm going to munch on a peer and some almonds. :)

From Andy on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 19:22:19 from 198.60.114.178

Looks like one of Teena's runs. Really great job!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 19:38:19 from 174.23.239.148

Andy ~ It just LOOKS like one of her runs. It's counterfeit! :) I can NEVER EVER do what Teena does. But thanks for thinking so!

From Annie on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 20:02:04 from 97.117.78.91

How do I fit it all in? How do you fit it all in, 10, 15, 7, 13 all in one week? How do you train your body to do that let alone have time to?

Once again, WOW!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 20:10:41 from 174.23.239.148

Annie ~ I don't have little munchkins who tug at my legs all day long like you, young momma. That's how! :)

The body is an amazing thing. Sometimes if I'm lucky, it will do want I tell it to do. :)

From auntieem on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 20:36:12 from 24.17.177.218

I love those kinds of runs, slow, then marathon pace, then tempo pace. That was one killer run! No wonder you were starving! GOOD JOB avoiding the dessert after all that.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 22:23:31 from 174.52.45.85

SSF!!! I miss you so so so much! This week has been so stinkin' hectic. How are you???

That was a killer run there!!! Seriously!!!! And to think you were telling me that you were getting slower! HA!!!! The proof is in the pudding!! YOU ROCK!!! I love you!!! INCREDIBLY AWESOME RUN!!! (Hope your tummy is feeling better.)

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 22:52:36 from 174.23.239.148

SSF ~ Are you all done with tests and homework now? How was the Anatomy test. I was thinking/praying for you especially while in the temple.

My tummy is feeling better.

You made me laugh when you say "the proof is in the pudding!" You say the cutest things.

Seriously, my puke pace is your easy peasy mosey pace! :) Miss & love you lots!

From Teena Marie on Thu, Feb 11, 2010 at 23:54:54 from 174.52.45.85

Done?? That is all relative!!! :) Actually, my brain is fried and though I need to be studying this evening, I just can't. I am spending time just chilling with the family. Annie came over earlier, I just love her. :)

The test went well. At least I think it did. We shall see on Tuesday (that's when we are suppose to get them back).

I miss you so much already. :)

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 00:06:08 from 174.23.239.148

I see you worked your magic on Annie's knees. You are such a GREAT sister!

So glad you're taking a breather and chilling w/ the fam. You're amazing!

POWER HOUSE! Way to go Smooth!

From RAD on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 15:34:10 from 67.172.229.125

I think a run like that and no sugar all month would definitely qualify for a two bowl of soup lunch! Nice workout - good luck getting up to Suncrest, hopefully the weather will hold out for you soon!

From AmberG on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 15:55:25 from 64.255.88.27

I agree you earned two bowls of soup Smooth! "can I have some more soup please?" :)

You are a POWERHOUSE, what a great work out and lightning fast 5k!

Great job! THanks for all the details!

From Bec on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 16:00:37 from 76.23.55.210

Smooth, I just love you. You inspire me to run again. I love the fact that you can pack on all of those miles. I hope you are feeling EnErGizEd from not eating junk. Sugar free isn't so bad huh? I have cut sweets, dairy, meat, and gluten out of my diet. To my surprise I actually feel full and good.

From Bec on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 16:22:55 from 76.23.55.210

Are you going to the Stake Valentines dance? I would love to see you there if you are!

From Smooth on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 16:27:52 from 174.23.239.148

Bec ~ Yes, Prez and I have to make an appearance. We are not there to dance though, Prez doesn't dance. It will be my "fee" day to indulge...who can resist those mini Kneader's pastries? I'm NOT that strong! HA!

I can't wait to see you. I heard you went to the temple. I am sooooo excited and happy for you! :)

From timp on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 16:59:31 from 144.189.100.25

great run!

From Bec on Fri, Feb 12, 2010 at 17:56:32 from 76.23.55.210

I am so excited to see you too! You know that everyone at that dance goes for the amazing food, not really to dance. Anyway, I will see you there.
