Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

26.2 days 'till Boston!!!

Nothing like adverse weather to get the creative juice going.  I really don't want to get another headache like I got yesterday from that wicked head wind and springtime allergy.  So, what to do?  Head down to the trusty mill, set it at 2% incline, crank up the fan, with channel 11 blasting away (there're several KBYU channels now with the digital converter box, cool) I ran a 10K with 8x400m intervals.

Warm up 1 mile ~ progressively increase every .25 mile (10:00, 9:40, 9:22, 9:05, 8:49).

8 x 400m intervals from mile 2 to 5.75 ~ Did .25 mi intervals @ 7:30.  Recover .25 mi @ 8:34 in between.

Cool down ~ slow pace down every minute by 7 sec. increments (8:00, 8:13, 8:20, 8:27) 'till I reach 6.2 mile.

You are one dedicated runner! That treadmill work is worth twice the outside miles :) I'm pooped just thinking about it!

Well done Smooth. One thing is for sure. You Utah runners will be ready for what ever weather is thrown at you in Boston this year...well unless it is hot and humid and no one is ever ready for that. I loved the e-mail I received for BAA this morning that said 26.2 DAYS. One of my co-workes thought it was weird that they put the .2 on there until I explained to him that a marathon is 26.2 miles. Then he still looked at me weird and didn't find the amusement in it that I did.

Smooth, your workouts are so disciplined. I would've just gone back to bed and not done anything, but you always take what is given to you and make lemonade!! Thanks for your inspiration, you are still coming Saturday, right? Even without the car? I'd hate to run without you :(

Way to go, Smooth. I got the same email today, too. I've got to send an email to all my family and a few friends who might want to get text messages everytime I cross a timing mat. Can't wait!

Time is closing in! Don't you dare get injured in the next 26.2 days.
