Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

DEAD legs run, STINK!!!  Met Karen halfway between her house and mine.  We ran down 3rd West to get on the Rail trailhead.  Not sure what the temp was, but it was cold with frost still on the lawn.  My right knee was hurting.  Going up the trail seemed to help with the knee and warmed up nicely.  We got to the top/dead end of the trail (it will be nice when SR 92 construction is complete and the trail is connected all the way north to the point of the mountain), we turned around to head down to the Pheasant Pointe trail access towards Fox Hollow Elementary. 

When we reached 1200 West, instead of kept going east on 3200 North, Karen wanted to head north on 1200 West.  I haven't run that 0.3 mile (approx. 9% grade) uphill for awhile.  I used to run that to gauge my fitness keeping the pace under 10mm.   But today I felt like I was hauling boulders.  When we reached the top I was getting dizzy and a little out of breath.  We turned east on Bull River and within a quarter mile, instead of feeling recovered, I felt as if my heart was going to jump out of my throat.  I could feel my heart pounding under the skin of my chest.  I also felt nauseated.  I had never felt that way EVER before.  It was quite frightening.  I stopped running immediately and leaned on Karen in case I passed out.  Karen also could feel the pulsating heart in my chest with her hand.  My breathing was fine so I started to walk and got the heartbeat under control.  

When we reached Karen's house at mile 7.  I went inside to get a drink of gatorade.  After chatting a little, I went back for 5 more.  I should have just run the one mile home because by mile 8 both my knees had tightened up and hurting.  By mile 10 my legs were as if on fire.  Each step was painfully slow, like death march at the end of a marathon.   The wind has also picked up.  Never have I felt so relieved to make it home!

Took an ice bath as soon as I got in the house.  I am still puzzled by that arrhythmia episode.  I wonder if that is what a heart attack feels like???

Oh SSF, I am so so so sorry.

Any chance you were having an asthma attack? That sounds very much like what happens to me during the onset of an attack. The chest pain and heart pounding are more of a result of the panic that sets in when you cannot get in enough air. So technically, I guess you would say an asthma attack coupled with a panic attack.

I feel so bad that you were so scared.

How do you feel now?

Smooth! THat's so scary! I'm glad you are ok, and of course you finished your exra miles (i'm sure i would have taken the 1 mile home route)!

It sounds like your body could use a good LONG nights rest my dear (long is more than 5 hrs :) . . . i don't know how you keep going on so little sleep, you really are an energizer bunny)

Nancy ~ It was foolish or stubborn of me to keep going. I should have just knocked on anyone's door and see if someone could drive me home.

SSF ~ I don't know if it was asthma attack! I was able to talk the whole way going up the hill. Just a little out of breath and light headed as we crested the hill. It was after we got to the top running on the flat, instead of feeling recovered, my heart just started to race and pound! I was not out of breath, just felt a tightness and pounding in my chest and nauseated. It was as though my heart would jump right out of my chest or throat! It was so sudden, not as if I was panic or anything.

I have been feeling weak and queasy all afternoon, like I am totally drained of energy. I am going to get my blood work done tomorrow. It's something I'm supposed to do in March anyway per doctor's order back in Nov when I had my physical.

On a side note, I was wheezing when I did the half mile repeats yesterday. I was once diagnosed with cold or exercise induced asthma. Never was really bothered by it! so perhaps you are right! I hope that's what it is and not something to do with the heart!

How are you doing? Are you ready for Boston? I am so excited you are running in the elite women corral! Kinda cool to think that I will be running in your footsteps...even though I will be trailing hours behind you! :)

Thanks for the encouragement yesterday. I am feeling a lot better today. I think I put too much pressure on myself. I just need to learn to enjoy it for what it is. I would love to do a group run with you sometime, but this Saturday probably won't work.

Sorry to hear that you had a crappy day. I developed some weird heart thing when I was pregnant with Scott. The doctor said that I was fine, but it will beat 2 beats really close together so that on the 3rd beat the blood rushes through and it actually feels like it's skipping a beat. I feel a little out of breath when it happens, and my heart will pound for a few seconds, but I'm used to it now and it happens less frequently. I hope you are feeling better soon. It's Friday and this is a Tuesday post. I hope you are doing ok. I have had arythmia a lot. It makes me go faint, like I'm going to pass out and I can't get a good breath. I hope it's nothing more serious than arrhythmian and stress or maybe anxiety. YOu kind of have a lot going on. Maybe even a little anemia? Please be well our dear friend. You're on our minds.

are you on any medications? some antibiotics can cause that. also if you take ibuprofen at the wrong time. hope you are doing better.

I did go to the doctor and now on inhaler for ASTHMA...who knew!?!

Life is a bit hectic the next two weeks trying to get ready for Boston, my son's wedding and my youngest boy's mission farewell. If I could just have more hours a day! :) :) :)
