Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Look at you go girl! Great miles this week. I'm sure that none of them are "junk." Even though you don't ever run "junk." I watched the video link that Eric posted yesterday! I am so excited now. Kara Goucher is my hero. I would love to run 20 miles at a 7 min pace. What would that be like?

We our on our taper. What is your mileage suppose to be at for the next couple weeks? I just want to do this taper correctly.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 01, 2009 at 15:49:19 from 71.36.78.130

I think I will max out at around 45 this week. Next week I will taper down to 35. I will do couple tempo runs and one interval run if the weather co-operates. The long run will be around 17 this Sat. and 12 next Sat. I am so ready for taper. April will definitely be a low mileage month.

Great job, enjoy the new socks!

Thank you for the input. I am just not completely sure about the taper. I don't want to give too much, or not enough.

I love that you do Yasso 800's. I read his book and he got me pumped to do the 8oo's. Great pace, that sets you up for about a 3:56 marathon? That is perfect.

Enjoy those new running socks. Small things like that are great incentives to get excited about running for some reason.

Are they going to be BoSox? :0)

Your taper plan sounds great!

Bec,

If in doubt, always err on the safe side. It's better to be under-trained than over-trained. I don't think I can improve much the next two weeks; but I can easily overdo it and not have fresh legs on race day.

No worries, you will do great at Boston. My main goal is to BQ, anything beyond that is icing on the cake.

Kelli, Leslie, Marc,

I get the same socks I've always worn, Asics Hera low-cut. They always try to sell me some new and innovative ones. I haven't liked any of them, the bamboo, the soft wool, the extra cushion, blah blah blah. I like to stick with what works.

I was at Runner's Corner and tried on some different shoes too. I still like the Mizuno Inspire the best. I have finicky feet. The salesgirl did show me another way to lace/tie my laces to avoid pressure on my left anterior tibial tendon. I'll try that on my next run with my newest Inspire and see if it works.

Asics are the best, I agree!

Smooth - as always, GREAT workout!!where are you running this Sat? I need to get 16-17 in and would LOVE to run with someone. I'm assuming you're going early due to conference so that would work perfect for me! Let me know if I can crash your party :) We'll get those new socks of yours all sweaty and dirty :)

Good luck in your tapering. One of these years I will join you in Boston.

Hi Mom,

I'm glad to hear that you're trying a new lacing pattern. I can show you some lacing patterns I got at the Sports Med Conference if you're interested.

Today, we learned about Limb Length Discrepancy and how long distance runners that run on the same side of crowned roads repeatedly develop a functional limb length discrepancy which exaggerates pronation on one leg and suppination on the other. Sequentially, the body then has to compensate for that. IT'S NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT right now, but it certainly may explain the navicular pain you experienced last fall. I'll call you sometime to share specifics.

Enjoy your new socks!

Hey Eric,

I was thinking about that on today's run. So on this out and back route, I ran facing traffic out then with traffic back. I actually tied my shoes the same way and it didn't seem to bother the tendon. I'm hoping that lump on the tendon is somekind of brusitis sac and not scar tissue. We'll see.

Rachel,

I love to run with you. How about we meet at the Lehi JRP to run at 7:00am? Will that give you enough time?
