Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Schedule says to run a 8K-10K tune up race.  There's a Half at Ogden this morning; but I didn't want to miss General Conference so I did my own 10K race.

Warm up 2 miles in 19:14.  Did the 8 dynamic flexibility exercises.

10K in 46:29

Cool down 1.25 miles in 10:02

TT: 1:15:45  AP: 8:00

20 min yoga while watching General Conference.

***************

Love Pres. Monson's sweet comments about his dear wife, Francis.  Really enjoy listening to Sis. Beck's talk on the sacred roles of women.  Elder Packer's talk on the wonderful power of Priesthood.  Elder Ballard's great counsels to mothers and daughters.  Elder Eyring's inspired words to families, children, youth, parents in following the straight and narrow path.

My soul hungers for these nurturing words of the Prophets and Leaders (especially the women).  It gives me strength, joy and peace.  I am soooo grateful to have the Gospel in my life and to have made sacred covenants with the Lord.

I have not put conference on yet, I did not get home from my run until 11:00. It was going at Jose's house, though. I think I will watch it all tonight while Scott is at priesthood. I know if I turn it on now I will just fall asleep!!!

Great little 10k, that is close to my PR! If it were an actual race, you would have beat me.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

From JulieC on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 16:14:09 from 207.224.203.58

There is NO WAY I could have run with you today. I would have collapsed. GREAT RUN!!!

From JulieC on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 16:14:31 from 207.224.203.58

Obviously that 17 miler didn't phase you!!!

From AmberG on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 18:54:48 from 64.255.88.27

Great 10k run, and wonderful thoughts on conference. I thought of you while I was watching, for some reason I pictured you and knew you would be 'soaking it all in', , , what wonderful counsel it was too! It makes me happy! THanks for your great example!

BTW GREAT WORK OUTS THIS WEEK GIRLYYYYY!

From seeaprilrun on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 19:42:58 from 68.103.242.46

That is some serious discipline to just go out and race a 10k all by yourself! Awesome! Glad you heard some nourishing words today!

From vinh on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 20:45:55 from 24.211.101.133

Wow Smooth! Look at that 10k! That beat my last year's 10k by a minute!

From Kathie on Sat, Apr 03, 2010 at 21:48:57 from 63.248.105.188

Really smooth you are scaring me there is no way I can hang with you in Boston! Please promise you will leave me when I start to slow you down...like in the first mile!

Loved Loved Loved conference! I am going to down load it so I can listen to it over and over on the way to Boston.

Kelli ~ No stinkin' way I would EVER EVER beat you in a race! That is simply impossible.

Your 22 miler was AWESOME! Hope you get a nap today! Rest well tomorrow!

Julie ~ Yes, you could have run with me today. You ran just as fast and almost as much miles. And that's after working a tough 14 hours night shift! You are amazing! I hope you get to go home early tonight.

Thanks again for yesterday's run! I really pushed myself today thinking I'll get to have a rest day tomorrow, sort of.

Amber ~ I notice they changed the flowers at the podium. Last week they had white tulips. :) I just LOVE conference. The only negative thing about SGM is missing Conference Sat. morning. Thanks for your kind words!

April ~ Looks like you had fun cheering your friend and sister-in-law in their 10K this morning. So nice to have this blog to share and encourage each other. You're a great mom and awesome runner.

vinh ~ Thanks!

Kathie ~ Me scaring you? NO STINKIN' WAY! I saw your splits on your hilly 1ong run this morning. You are FAST! I know you're running Boston for fun and as a long run...so it's just perfect for me to keep up with you.

GREAT idea listening to Conference on the long plane ride.

SSF ~ The day was made more wonderful when you called. Yep, that was a PR by almost a min. I've only run three 10Ks so not very good at it. I LOVE YOU!

Toby ~ THANK YOU! Hope you will be running soon!

From RAD on Sun, Apr 04, 2010 at 01:44:17 from 67.172.229.125

You are getting SO fast! Nice work on that run lady, Boston is gonna be a breeze! I keep thinking about what a beautiful 'butterfly' you're turning into :)

Conference was WONDERFUL!! Only 1/2 way through though...I better get to bed :)

From Teena Marie on Sun, Apr 04, 2010 at 10:59:56 from 63.226.93.26

HAPPIEST EASTER EVER TO MY SWEETEST, MOST WONDERFUL, EXTREMELY FAST AND HARDCORE SSF!!!! :)

I love you. May you enjoy everything about this day.

From MarcE on Sun, Apr 04, 2010 at 13:14:41 from 206.225.68.30

Smooth...That's a speedy 10K for sure!! Just think how much baster you would have been surrounded by other runners!

Happy Easter!!!

From timp on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 11:19:12 from 144.189.100.25

nice job Smooth! In race atmosphere you'd take at least a minutes off that I'm sure.

From Bec on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 11:22:07 from 76.23.55.210

Motivating little Smooth. Your determination in your training will pay off in the next few weeks big time. I'm excited to see how well you do in Boston. Conference was great, wasn't it?

From Kelli on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 14:10:20 from 71.219.92.128

Smooth, I think you are wrong!! Your little 1ok "race" pace is so close to my PR. With the adrenaline of people around and a real race, I think you could beat me. You are a very strong runner, have had a great winter, and have gotten super fast!!!

From Tom Slick on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 14:54:55 from 168.179.156.166

OK baby girl, I'm here to haunt you....

From Smooth on Mon, Apr 05, 2010 at 16:55:09 from 174.23.251.49

Rachel ~ The butterfly is staying in the cocoon waiting for Winter to GO AWAY!

SSF ~ Hope you had a WONDERFUL EASTER? How's the leg and the rash? Love & miss you!

Marc ~ Thanks! I really dislike running short distance races. But the few that I did, I managed to win in my AG! :)

Timp ~ Thanks for your confidence. I don't think I could run any faster than that. It was definitely in my puke zone and I was just glad that there's no one around to witness my dying at the end.

Bec ~ I hope so. Will see in 14 days! General Conference was WONDERFUL!

Kelli ~ THANKS for saying I'm getting faster. I miss you so much! Can't wait to see you soon!

Coach ~ I am SOOOOO EXCITED you got on board! WELCOME! Your "haunting" puts a smile on my face! :)
