Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Beautiful sunny day, cool, a bit breezy.  Since my Garmin is broken and the new one hadn't arrived yet, I ran down to the HS track for today's workout,  expecting to have the whole track to myself since it is Spring break.

3 miles running to the HS in about 28 min.  No one's using the track, YES!  But there was a baseball game going on or about to start...so there was "audience".  Did the dynamic flexibility exercises and jogged 200 m to the "start line".

3 x 1600m @ 5K race pace; jog 50-90% interval time between.

I accidently reset the lap memories on my watch erasing the splits.  STINK!  Here's what I remember on the 1600m but not sure of the 800m RI jog:  7:35 (4:55?)  7:37 (5:00?)  7:34 (no clue what this RI was.

Drank 24 oz water that I had carried and used the port-a-potty by the baseball field before running 3 mi back home.  The calves tightened a bit during the stop.  The left vastus medialis was complaining on the uphills.  Took it easy and made it home just under 30 min.

When I got home, the new Garmin has arrived sitting on my front porch, SWEET!

This is the last VO2 max workout before Boston!  Wore the shoes I'll wear at Boston.  A tiny blister started to form on the medial ball of my left foot.  Will need to get new socks and try them on Saturday's run along w/ the new Boston wardrobe.

Keep thinking about my SFF and hope that her leg is healing well!

That was a nice workout Smooth. It is a pretty day, isn't it? Kind of sad that your Garmin died.

From RAD on Wed, Apr 07, 2010 at 17:11:44 from 67.172.229.125

Nice last workout Smooth! Glad the new garmin came, but stink about the shoes giving a blister. Hopefully the new socks will take care of it.

My thoughts and prayers are also headed in that direction!!

It is so nice out there today! I am sure your run was much more interesting than the baseball game!

Keeping Teena in my prayers...I know she will pull through.

Nice workout Smooth. Which garmin did you get?

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Apr 07, 2010 at 18:23:16 from 66.239.250.209

I think I finally talked my wife into letting me get a Garmin :) Now, where can I go for the best deal?

Glad you enjoyed the nice day.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 07, 2010 at 18:25:40 from 174.23.201.210

Hi Mack ~ So nice to hear from you! I got the 305. My other 305 was 3 years old. It kept loosing power. I emailed Customer Support. They told me it would cost $79 to fix and take 10-15 business days. So I bought another one for $150 from Amazon. The new one is Mac compatible, so that's nice!

I debated whether to get the 205, which has no HR monitor and was $120. The 405 is over $300, even though it would fit my small wrist better, I have heard complaints about it.

I hope this 305 works great and last at least 3 more years.

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 07, 2010 at 18:31:14 from 174.23.201.210

Scott ~ Amazon.com is selling them for $150.54, no shipping cost. I ordered it on Mon and got it today using their FREE prime member 2 days shipping. Otherwise shipping is free on the regular 5 days shipping.

That's a great gift from your wife! :) I told my hubby it's an early Mother's Day gift!

I'm glad you guys final got some good weather. Looks like a pretty tough workout. Get that calf healed up before you Satruday run.

That last hard workout is done. You made it! I'm sure the audience at the baseball game was impressed with your run. Hope the new shoes are better on Saturday.

Yay for your last Vo2 workout, and double Yay for a new Garmin. Funny, , , just this morning as I was running I was thinking how grateful I am for my running friend (my garmin), it's so amazing to look down and know how fast and far I've gone. Hope your new one serves you well!

BTW, thank you for your sweet testimony on yesterday's entry. Beautiful. and happy bday to your son! he's so lucky to have a Mom like you!!!!

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Apr 08, 2010 at 15:38:32 from 66.239.250.209

Thanks for the info Smooth. :)

I think you overloaded your Garmin ...with miles! Congrats on the new one. Great workout! You're sooooo ready.

From JulieC on Thu, Apr 08, 2010 at 17:51:55 from 207.224.202.196

Hey we ran the same workout. I should have run them on the track. The TMs at Lehi actually all touch each other, absolutely no space between them. That is how crowded it is there. The track is so much nicer and you can "see" the finish. GReat Workout!! PS I think I needed an 800 meter recovery. I don't know why my plan says only 400, that was the killer for me.

From april27 on Thu, Apr 08, 2010 at 19:37:13 from 99.188.251.180

Did the audience cheer for you?

From Smooth on Fri, Apr 09, 2010 at 00:48:27 from 174.23.201.210

Kelli ~ You want me to adopt your cute little boys? I will put them to work on my acre yard!

SSF ~ How are you? Tried calling you today when I was walking across the campus at BYU. How did the test go? Miss you!

May be I should name my Garmin Gary, after my speedy bro-in-law! :)

Rhett ~ The calves are fine. It is the pelvis giving me grief now. STINK!

Andy ~ I'm just starting to not fear VO2 workout. I bought new socks to go with the new shoes and shirts...all teal in color. I hope the shoes and socks don't give me blisters. Will see on Sat run.

Vinh ~ Thanks1

Paul ~ Umph umph umph! Trying hard! :)

Amber ~ So many things to be grateful for, don't know how we ever run without our Garmin, the trusty friend!

Marc ~ Didn't you have at least two 305s? You're the ultra guy giving your Garmins the workouts! :)

Julie ~ Yep, great minds think alike. We ran identical workout except your 1600s are twice as fast as mine! And you didn't take as long a rest interval. And you ran yours in that crowded LC w/ a TM class! You're amazing!

april ~ No, they just stared. I looked like a steam engine chugging around and around. I'm sure they must be thinking: what is that old lady doing on the track? Is she going to kill over? :D

From MarcE on Fri, Apr 09, 2010 at 00:52:24 from 204.16.82.122

Yep..I'm on my 3rd 305. I lost one, and one died. I'm taking good care of this one (glad they're dropping in price!) Once you've had one, it's tough to go without it!!!
