Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I had wanted to either volunteer or run the Thanksgiving Point Half with my friends.  But I have a bridal shower for my niece today.  So, I got up early to run a short recovery 6 miler.

The weather was beautiful, perfect temp with sunny blue sky.  My calves were just a little tight but felt great after the first warm up mile at 10:30 pace.  I took it nice and easy and no soreness to speak of.  TT: 1:00:14.  AP: 10:00

Oh, I lost 6 lbs, yay, 4 more to go!

You lost 6 lbs of what? Glad you decided against running that half.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sun, Apr 25, 2010 at 19:10:20 from 24.8.167.243

I actually think that the bridal shower was a good thing because it kept you from running the half. I would have thought you were crazy if you had run the half.

What a full week you had! Kids graduating college? You just never stop. Not even 10 pounds of saline pumping through your tininess, and the Boston Marathon can slow you down. I am in humble awe of your greatness. Truly.

Not to mention, your 32nd wedding anniversary. This was a big, wonderful week. Amazing, you're amazing.

WOW SMOOTH!!! I just barely caught up on your whole BOSTON experience. Congrats on such a great race, it was fun to read about all of your experiences, the thoughts that went through your head etc. So sorry about your leg cramping and your 2 hr stay in the med tent! Dang! I'm glad you are ok though, and that you got to spend your trip with such incredible friends. Plus, the boston jackets are SO SO SO cute!!!!!!!! Your hubby is great to tell you to get BOTH!

Also, Congratulations on your Anniversary AND your son's Graduation! You've had such an exciting week. Man, I miss a lot when I miss out on reading your blog!

You are an incredibly strong runner and such an amazingly fun person!!! :) You trained so hard through snow, rain, cold, etc . . . . you should be so proud, , , nothing can stop you and your desire to achieve your goals!!! One last CONGRATS!!!

Sorry this is out of context, I probably should reply on the correct day, but I wanted to make sure you got it.

Dale ~ You're sooo funny! I lost all 10 lbs of the water I gained after Boston. It took 6 days! Now I don't feel like a beached whale anymore...just a slow baby elephant!

Carolyn ~ My friend, Marcie, ran the Boston 5K on Sunday, the Boston Marathon on Monday, then the Thanksgiving Point Half on Sat. She took 2nd AG on a tough hilly course to boot. There're fast runners on that half b/c they gave out prize money.

So, I am NOT the least bit crazy like Marcie! She's amazing!

Luz ~ It WAS a full busy week. That's why it took me so long to catch up on the blogging. I miss you already.

Amber ~ I haven't kept up on your blog either. Going over there now. THANKS for your kudos! You're too cute!

So Ms. Smooth, hows the Boston recovery coming and are your going to be doing the UVM with me?

From Smooth on Tue, Apr 27, 2010 at 10:44:50 from 174.23.172.155

Hey Coach! Recovery is coming along great! No more soreness, but still slow. I think I left my giddyup in Beantown.

Am gearing up to run Ogden in 18 days. You're going for BQ at UVM right? So yah, I'll tag along for the first 500 yards; then you'll leave me in your dust! UVM should be a fast course. I am certain you'll run your best time there!

From auntieem on Tue, Apr 27, 2010 at 11:33:27 from 24.18.77.246

Hi Smooth! Just caught up in here and read your Boston report! Great report, and many congratulations on you run and BQ qualifying. Sorry to hear about the med tent experience, but, what can you do? It happens. Sounds like recovery is goin' well!

From Smooth on Tue, Apr 27, 2010 at 14:07:06 from 174.23.172.155

auntie ~ THANKS! The med tents folks were WAY too helpful! I just hope I never have to experience that again and I won't want to wish that on my worst enemies! :)
