Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Ran 3 miles with Mary, Wendy & Beth, then 2.5 solo.  Mary and Beth will run their first marathon if they win the SGM lottery.  Wendy is in via the Runner Series.  All three just started their training last week.   They had a zillion questions about Boston.  So fun to recap and get them excited about marathoning.

5.5 miles in 50:40.  AP: 9:13.  Splits: 9:54, 9:21, 9:12, 9:02, 8:58, 8:32

Nice run smooth! Way to impart your wisdom and the new runners. I am sure if they listen to you they will do great! I hope they "win" the lottery!

From MrsFIT on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 12:16:20 from 205.127.70.66

Isn't running without a specific goal pace the best?! I LOVE yoga...LUCKY!

From huans32 on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 13:53:41 from 138.64.2.76

I want to run with you again just to hear all about Boston first hand. When we going to go for another run?? And it better be a long one since I have a zillion questions too. Coach Smooth.:)

From leslie on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 17:51:29 from 76.23.61.78

How fun!!! That was a great pace for the girls just starting out after a break all winter. I hope to be there someday!!

From RAD on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 17:54:07 from 67.166.99.8

Nice run Smooth!! I can't wait for my rundown on Saturday :) You are an amazing running partner!

From Rhett on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 18:07:50 from 170.215.58.122

Smooth, keep converting the masses to the wonderful world of marathoning. With you at the lead, how could they not all follow?

From Marce on Tue, Apr 28, 2009 at 23:18:33 from 206.225.68.52

How fun! I love telling people about marathons. You are quite the veteran, and have loads of knowledge to share with the newbies! I hope they get in via the lottery...and I hope I do, too! Otherwise, I think I'll have to resort to begging and groveling. :)

From kellies on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 00:26:51 from 66.119.143.249

I can't believe how fast you are bouncing right back. Nice miles this week and great pace. You are on "Fire". Way to go!

From Teena on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 13:43:39 from 67.177.20.13

Oh I hope they get in via the lottery!! As a matter of fact, I hope I get in via the lottery!

Seriously Smooth, it's like you didn't run a marathon! Be careful ... even if you feel great you have thousands of microtears right now. So ... be smart!

Great week so far!! Look at those times, you are amazing!!!

I am excited for your grandbaby, too. I LOVE babies!

Kathie,

No wisdom...just lots of fun talking about all the marathon bloopers...VPB, getting mooned by guys bashing the bushes. :D

MrsFIT,

I hear ya! It's so much fun running with friends and not worry about pace.

MarkO,

Where are you and MrsFIT running this Sat? We (Rachel and I so far) are running on the Lehi JRP for 14 at 7am. Want to come join us?

Leslie,

You will be an inspiration to all these girls, especially Wendy who happens to take a liking to you. :)

Rachel,

I will see you on Sat. I have a church assignment at 10:30 am so I have to hustle.

Rhett,

I don't want to be a drill sargeant; or they'll never want to run with me again.

Marc,

I hope you get in the lottery too. I don't want to wait for 355 days before I see you again.

Kellie,

Thanks. No rest for the wicked.

Teena,

I hope you get in the lottery too. One way or another you will run SGM.

Lowell does not believe in microtears. Did you get all those emails I forwarded to you. He imparted alot of wisdom on taper and muscle cramps to me.

Kelli,

I can't wait to see little Emi and hold her. I found out her mom and dad have been sick since last Thursday. I feel so guilty for not being there right now.

From Teena on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 15:57:27 from 67.177.20.13

Why doesn't he believe in microtears? Interesting.

I got the emails. I haven't read Lowell's long one yet (although I am sure that I know what is in there because I read your response to him and I recognized the story).

I'm frantically trying to get everything done. Right now I decided to take a little break and be on the blog while I finish the 50 invites for the appreciation dinner the RS is doing.

Teena,

His theory is that muscle fibers are not like rubber band. He describes them as stretchy bread dough. They will tightened after exertion. The key is to stretch frequently. My BIL, Gary, was constantly stretching. Three hours after racing a sub-3 Boston, he ran up and down the stairs in the T station and the restaurant like nut'n. He said he learned to keep stretching and pretty soon the soreness is gone. He rolled his muscles all the time too. So I think the muscles fibers just need help to get back to its homeostasis. I also believe that if I run with no pain, there must not be any damage. Remember I don't take drugs to mask anything.

From Teena on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 16:09:21 from 67.177.20.13

Actually, now that you say that I remember him telling me that. I also remember that is why I continued to run when I felt that things were tight and sore after Snow Canyon ... and that's when I got my stress fracture. So ... who knows. But I think you are right, if there is no pain ... well then that is a different ballgame!! :)

From Smooth on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 16:13:58 from 71.36.87.147

Lowell and Terry ran 8 and 13.5 last Thu and Sat. to make the week of Boston a total 50 mpw.and eluded this: "Does that remind you of Teena?" I was so confused. He also wants me to do some mile interval to see if there's some 7 mm in me. Holy smoke, that just scares me. He thinks we can run 3:45 in Ogden. That is totally delusional for me. LLL

From Teena on Wed, Apr 29, 2009 at 16:35:10 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth, you could do it!! I'm serious. Just PLEASE be careful. And I am referring to both accounts: the 7s and Ogden.

Okay ... I have got to get back to business. I need to eat something, get ready for tonight's class, and remember which Bishops go with which wards all before the kids get home in 30 minutes! YIKES!!

I was thinking the other day that when I get healed that you, me, and Kelli should do an early morning session and then a fun run and then breakfast.

What do you think?
