Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I'm supposed to run the one and only VO2 max workout today.  NO GO!  I can barely move.  My calves have been sore and swollen.  The areas behind the knees at the top of my calves are very tender to touch.  What was I thinking pounding up and down the 1,080 concrete stairs at the Marriott Center and did nothing to warm up before or cool down later???!!!  DUMB DUMB ME!!!  I have done nothing but sat for hours through meetings this entire weekend. 

The IV puncture area of my right arm has been bruised badly with a big patch of black, purple and green.  Today, 2 weeks later, the bruise is finally faded to a patch of green.  This tells me that it takes a minimum of two weeks for damaged tissues to rid of its debrie.  

At this point, I don't know if I am up to running Ogden.  :(

Oh Smooth, , , , I hope you can still run Ogden, , , ,just take a few days easy and see how you feel! You can count those stairs as your last long run PLUS your Vo2 max workout!!! :) Take CaRe!!!

I understand you want to run a good marathon, but remember you don't have to PR at every one of them! You will still have a killer time, I have no doubt. You are so strong, Smooth! Keep working hard. You can get in a VO2 Max workout in later in the week if you feel up to it. Don't put pressure on yourself; you just ran an AWESOME Boston! Take this one easy.

Amber & Kirsten ~ THANK YOU SO MUCH for your encouragement. I shouldn't have run up and down those stairs wearing jeans and sweaters. It was very foolish of me. But I hadn't run for two days and was itching to run. It didn't help that I sat for hours in Women's Conference, my son's HS musical and then Church on Sunday.

I just hope my calves will heal up in time for me to do Ogden. Why am I so addicted to running? :)

Leslie ~ I collapsed after crossing the finish line at Boston. The medics pumped 2 liters of saline thru IV in my arm; thus the bruising. It was the only reminder that I had run Boston two weeks ago; or so I thought until I did the stupid thing of running up and down the concrete stairs last Fri. Stupid stupid stupid!

Smooth, let your body be the guide. Good call on tkaing it easy today. I know you and you will probably be feeling great by Ogden and run it. Just try and take it easy. Keep telling yourself... training run!

its funny how us "oldies (but goodies)" try something new and end up really sore or injured. Me stupid pushups in weak form causing my back/hip to go over the edge and you "a little" stair work. In the past we wouldn't have been affected....now we need more time for recovery,,,we think we are so "springy". I don't think too old but my body reminds me. Just give yourself TWO DAYS of rest and you will be ready for OGDEN. If I have to show up YOU do!!!

Give it time, take it slow and easy! You can always run Ogden nice and pokey if you are feeling better, if not, NO BIG DEAL!!!!!!

What can I do?

I have a feeling that you will be absolutely fine by Ogden. Just take it easy for a few days. If you want to come down we can work on your calves: we can do an ice massage, some releases, and set you up on the tens unit. Your call.

Smooth do nothing it is taper time. All the long runs are in the bag. Give yourself a week and a half and you will be on fire next week! Good Luck!
