Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

AM:  Nice easy recovery run with Wendy and Carolyn.  AP: 9:27

PM:  Beth gave me a tour of the Legacy Center.  Tried out the cardio and weights machines.  The only machines I could work on are the ellipticals and recumbent bikes.  The upright bikes are too tall for my short legs even at the lowest seat setting.

20 min of cardio and 10 min of upper body weights.

Can't wait to see you on Saturday. Do you want to run together? I am going to try and get 3:50 and then when I crash and burn I'll slow down...I have really slacked off after Boston so I don't know why I think I can pull off a 3:50.

From Tom Slick on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 12:50:25 from 168.179.157.104

So you've already been out and got your recovery run done for the day, good on you. How are the legs feeling? Good and strong I hope since you have a big run at Ogden at the end of this week.

From Rhett on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 12:51:14 from 74.41.249.102

Nice run. Are you planning something for the PM also on marathon week? Oh yeah, I forgot, Smooth doesn't need a taper. You are the woman of steel. Be careful, please.

Kathie, can will totally pull off a 3:50. The lack of running between now and Boston was recovery and taper. You're going to be in perfect condition for a PR on Satruday.

From Smooth on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 12:56:10 from 174.23.172.155

Kathie ~ I wouldn't call all that xtrain and speedwork you did slack off. Your body will remember the awesome marathon you ran 26 days ago; so no need for more mileage. What you've run was exactly perfect to keep your legs recovered fully and fresh. I know you, when you set your mind to it, you can do it.

I'd love to hang with you...but no stinkin' way I can pull off a 3:50. I'd be ecstatic to pull off a BQ. Ogden has always been a *crash and burn* for me!

Can't wait to see you on Saturday. Are you coming up in the morning or staying overnight on Fri?

From Smooth on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 12:59:14 from 174.23.172.155

Rhett ~ I'm going to the Legacy Center with my neighbor in the PM. It is my initiation into the world of cross training.

Slick ~ All the Slam marathons are gonna be training runs for me. I have to keep reminding myself that!

From flatlander on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 13:07:02 from 198.207.244.102

Good run and good luck with Ogden this Saturday. Your "recovery" pace looks pretty fast to me.

From MrsFIT on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 13:32:57 from 205.127.241.18

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday! Thanks for the well wishes yesterday, even though I'm not really an m-o-m.

From RAD on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 14:39:23 from 67.172.229.125

Nice work Smooth! Have fun at LC tonight :) It'll be GREAT! I hope to find a way to do Ogden...or at least maybe run up there and cheer in all you marathoners!

From Tom Slick on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 16:31:54 from 168.179.157.104

Mrs Fit - your more a MOM than you think. Those girls will really need your love and guidence more than you'll ever know.

From Smooth on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 16:42:29 from 174.23.172.155

Flatlander ~ Thanks! I need all the luck I can get 'cause I ain't got any smarts.

Kristi ~ Can't wait to see you on Sat. I agree w/ Slick; you are a GREAT MOM and you better believe it. And I hope the girls realize it too!

Rachel ~ It was just a look-see. I'm not sure if I'll buy membership.

From RAD on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 16:45:23 from 67.172.229.125

lol...the upright bikes are too tall? I don't believe it! I hope you had a good time, in the weight room I almost feel like I'm fenced in a jail :)

From Smooth on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 16:47:16 from 174.23.172.155

Rachel ~ Yep, the bikes are built for people with long legs like you. Grrrrr!!!

That weight room IS in a jail, as if not intimidating enough! There were some buff guys in there giving us the funny look! The nerve!!!

From JulieC on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 17:45:28 from 71.213.99.252

Hold off just under your goal pace until mile 17 then step it up....you may surprise yourself. Can't wait to see you too!! Smooth, if I go up Sat. morning can you pick up my bib if I give you my ID? I know, cutting it close in a marathon on the fly. I just don't sleep either way, hotel or my home...so why not be at home? still uncertain, I may change my mind.

From Smooth on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 17:48:59 from 174.23.172.155

Julie ~ I'll be happy to pick up your bib if you want. We're staying at the Marriott.

From JulieC on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 17:54:33 from 71.213.99.252

Thanks Smooth. I will let you know. When are you headed up there?

From Smooth on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 17:58:42 from 174.23.172.155

I'm going to pick up my hubby from work downtown Salt Lake around noonish, have lunch then head to the expo.

From Meggen on Mon, May 10, 2010 at 23:55:42 from 174.27.181.54

I know what you mean about those upright bikes at the LC. I have the same problem with them too because I also have short legs. I usually have a LC membership from about Nov-March, then cancel it and do my work outside while I can. I always pay month to month. It's not too expensive to do it that way. Good luck at Ogden! That's one of my favorites!

From LuzyLew on Tue, May 11, 2010 at 13:20:02 from 69.169.167.157

Hi lady! I miss you! I'll be driving Catherine up to Ogden so I hope I get to see you on Saturday! I'm trying to snag someone's number so I can ride the bus up and run the half. I'm willing to reimburse...Let me know if anyone wants to loan me their spot. If not, I'll be cheering for you at the end!

From Smooth on Tue, May 11, 2010 at 16:54:47 from 174.23.172.155

Hey Luz, I miss you too! I dunno anyone wanting to sell or give up their half slot. I'll keep my ears tuned.

Hope to see you at Ogden!

From RivertonPaul on Tue, May 11, 2010 at 17:45:09 from 67.42.27.114

Are you trying to tell us you are short? :)

From Smooth on Tue, May 11, 2010 at 17:54:26 from 174.23.172.155

No, you guys already know I AM SHORT! :D

Just wish the exercise-equipment-industry-people give consideration that there are petite people who may want to use their dang machines. Grrr!!!
