Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

How'd your legs feel? I bet it is strange trying to recover and taper at the same time.

From Kathie on Tue, May 24, 2011 at 17:55:34 from 97.126.209.130

Happy to see you are running already. I am sure you miss your grand daughter a ton now that she is gone!

Be-lated Congratulations on your Ogden Marathon! You always seem to pull through with a great positive attitude no matter what strikes (demons/cramps). . . just wanted to tell you GREAT JOB! Enjoy your family this week at the graduation :)

Running already? Man, you really are superwoman! I actually got out on a good 45 minute shuffle-walk this morning :) I think I barely got a mile in! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and are recovering well.

From Smooth on Tue, May 24, 2011 at 22:31:51 from 67.2.121.30

Rhett ~ the legs are stiff and sore, not as sore as after Boston! Having done the Grand Slam the last 4 years, I find that the recovery gets better and the taper period shorter as the race season progress. It is strange to be in a constant recovery/taper mode! :) :) :)

Kathie ~ you know too well how grand babies tug at your heart, don't you!

Amber ~ thank you!!! I am still in awe of your ironman so soon after an awesome Boston! You are most amazing!!!

Kelli ~ How's the ASTYM therapy treating you? Eric suggested that I try ASTYM on my patellar tendinitis!

He is graduating from med school in Podiatry. He will begin his 3 year residency in foot and ankle surgery at the Cleveland Clinic!

Rachel ~ The run was slow and easy! It was more for mental therapy! I text Karen as soon as Eric drove off! I don't handle goodbyes very well! when I run with somebody I am less likely to bawl like a baby! See what you have to look forward to when your kidlets start leaving the nest!

I have not seen any miracles YET, but he says the 5th visit is the MAGIC one, so we will see on Friday. BUT Scott is going and having it done on both calves and one hamstring and IT IS working miracles for him. he has been in so much pain for so long, this is a very good thing. Of course, he will probably beat me now!! Oh well.

From Smooth on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 10:05:29 from 67.2.121.30

I am glad that it is doing wonders for Scott! Keeping my fingers crossed that the magic comes to you on Friday!

From Kelli on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 10:11:18 from 71.219.96.115

You should give it a try, it is worth it!

From Markir on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 14:22:27 from 98.202.116.134

That's too bad about the legs cramping up at Ogden, but it still seems like a good time. That's cool about Matt and Wendy. That neighborhood is great for running!

From Smooth on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 15:57:33 from 67.2.121.30

Kelli ~ I am giving it some thoughts...may be after SGM.

Kirsten ~ Wendy and Matt are training with Brian and Emily. They are running so well. We really miss you and Marshall. I remember those days when we did our first/last 20 miler gearing up for my first SG marathon. Where has all the time gone? What grade is Samantha in now? Any of your kids run? They are probably great swimmer. This is a good neighborhood for running and raising kids.

Hope I see you at UVM! :)

From Markir on Thu, May 26, 2011 at 13:33:57 from 98.202.116.134

Samantha is just finishing up 8th grade. She is 5'10" and her legs are as long as you. She ran track this spring and did a 6.11 mile. She is going to run cross country for AF this year, though her ankles bother her a lot so if it's too much I won't let her do it. She also swims and that is her main focus. Amy and Scott also swim. Amy hates running and Scott just wants to play basketball. (He's freakishly tall too!) I got sick 2 weeks ago and was completely run down, and Marshall has been sick for almost 3 weeks now and not getting better, plus we think he may have a stress fracture in his foot, so needless to say we're not ready for UVM. We may still run it, but we're just going to see how things go. Right now I get tired running 3 miles. That 2005 St. George was fun with so many people running from the hood. Good times!

From Smooth on Thu, May 26, 2011 at 23:54:13 from 97.64.179.130

Samantha is FAST like her parents! She was always so mature for her age! I cannot believe she is going to be in 9th grade next year! Your kids are growing up so fast and you are so busy involved with their activities!

so sorry to hear that you and Marshall were sick! You will be well tapered! :) No worries about UVM, It is wonderful that you can run and run as a couple! I'd give anything in the world for Larry to run with me!
