Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Been having a hard time finding motivation to run lately.  Alas, THANKS to Jon and Kelly A today's run was one of the BEST I've had this season.  I went to their house at 7am.  They had already dropped off a car at the "finish" the night before.  We drove up to the mouth of AF Canyon and parked the car at a church parking lot.  The temp was perfect as we ran along the shady foothills and Cedar Hills Golf course.  It was so fun chatting with them that the miles just flew by.

There were lotsa runners and cyclists out this morning.  We ran thru Adventure Park and made our way thru Highland to Kohler's for a quick pit stop then down to mile 7 where we had stashed water.  Kelly gave me one of her pickles...tasted sooo good!  Don't laugh, it really works for cramps, all football coaches swear by it!  We continued west to 1200 East and down to Lehi Main St. and ran around the little block behind MetalMart just to get our mileage even...glad I'm not the only OCD one.  It was so FUN running with this darling couple.  They are the BEST!  They even bought me a bottle of Smart Water at the gas station.  THANKS Jon and Kelly for letting me tag along on!  Kelly is a strong runner and beautiful athlete.

Worked in the yard, weeded for couple hours after I got home.  It's getting really warm!  Hopefully we'll have good weather at UVM next Sat.

I am so glad you found buddies to run with! I was mortified when I saw your text 12 hours later!!!! We would have loved to have had you along, but I think your shady run sounds way better! Kelly is a great runner, hopefully you built her confidence up!

Scott skips the pickles and just drinks the juice!

Great run... I am going to have to try the pickle trick!

I am so happy you had such a great run with such wonderful company! Hmmm . . . I wonder what aid station Andy will be at. Pickles, huh? On our way to the Roy Aquatic Center for a wedding reception . . . interesting. Love you.

Amen on UVM weather! Good run, sounds like a great time.

You rock! Runs with other people really are more fun and go by more quickly. I think pickles are gross but for rehydration's sake, I might have to reconsider. I can't believe all the exciting things going on in your life with your kids. What a true joy and blessing. Enjoy every minute.

Pickles... Your assignment, since we won't be able to stash pickles along the UVM course, is to eat 3 or 4 pickles the night before and one or two the morning of the race. Sound good?

From RAD on Sat, Jun 05, 2010 at 23:24:51 from 67.172.229.125

hmmm...pickles? I have a hard time stomaching them (even prego!) normally, let alone on a run.

I'm glad you had a wonderful run with wonderful people! It's always good to get a few of them in every week! :)

I love a good pickle. Looking forward to seeing you at UVM.

Sounds like you knew the right people to get some good stuff during your run. Have a great final taper week!

I can't believe you're about to do your second marathon since Boston. You are truly amazing.

mustard works for cramps too. i like mustard, so i stomach it better than pickle juice, since i don't like pickles. ick!

From Kelli on Mon, Jun 07, 2010 at 14:19:18 from 71.219.93.114

That is too funny, Scott squirts mustard packets into his mouth while he runs as well!

From Jon A on Mon, Jun 07, 2010 at 14:22:01 from 67.214.249.195

Smooth, THANK YOU for going with us. It sure was nice to have you along. Kelly and I run "long" runs every Sat. I would love to go on one of your routes sometime soon.

From KP on Mon, Jun 07, 2010 at 14:23:06 from 65.208.22.26

i was a football manager in high school, so i learned all of these secrets then. the guys used to steal mustard packets from the lunchroom. they had a huge stash of them in the locker room. i actually haven't tried it while running. maybe it would help with my calf cramps some. hmmmmmm.....

From Smooth on Mon, Jun 07, 2010 at 18:31:43 from 174.23.172.155

Flatlander ~ Temp is heating up. It's not as hot as in TX though! So, you're safe!!!

Doone ~ THANKS! I am enjoying every minute of having Emi and my daughter-in-law and some of my boys home. We are having two nieces' weddings in June, plus my son's homecoming and a nephew's farewell...very exciting time!

Bradley ~ I don't really like pickles all by itself. But it tasted so good then. Hmmm, not sure if I can eat that much pickles on Fri and Sat morning. May be I should have Andy and Alisa stash some for me at their aid stations? You think?

Rachel & Paul ~ I'm not a pickle-eater either!

Rhett ~ Sure wish you were running UVM. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the doc. has some magic healing solution for you!

Carolyn ~ You ran awesome at Newport! CONGRATZ on your PR and BQ!

KP & Kelli ~ My friend, Lowell, says the same thing about mustard. He carried them and never used them until at one marathon where a girl was cramping up bad and he gave her the mustards. She passed him just before the finish,,,apparently worked for her. I tried it at Park City in 2008. It didn't do anything for me other than gave me ziny nose freeze. May have to try it again.

JonA ~ You guys are the best! THANK YOU for letting me come along. I had so much fun and really enjoyed you guys' company. Yes, we will plan some group runs on Sat. again!

KP ~ Let me know how the mustard help with your calf cramps. I'm willing to try anything to get rid of charlie horse once and for all.
