Long-Term Running Goals:

Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

It's such a beautiful day.  Thought I'd go for a run.  WRONG!  I jogged/walked/hobbled pathetically home.  The quads are NOT ready for any sort of running.  At one point the left ITB protested.   STINK!!!

Foam roll and stretch like crazy.

Lost the 2 lbs I gained before UVM, darn!

Breakfast:  Kashi cereal, yogurt, banana, milk, water, EmergenC and vitamins.

Lunch:  Strawberries, salmon, rice, brocoli, apple, more water.

Dinner:  Chicken drumsticks, spinach, rice, soup.

Snack:  Triscuits, wheat thins, almonds.

??? Will I be able to run by Friday at 5:30 pm ???  I hope I hope I hope!!!

Your breakfast sounds PERFECT; just the right amounts of carbs, protein, and whole grains - good job!

If I could move in with you and eat and run with you, I would be a twig!!! Those little leg puppies will be just fine by the weekend!

Friday is forever away, plus you'll have Lowell there to cheer you up and urge you on!!! Could you make a meal plan for me? I try, but cookies and ice cream always seem to sneak their way in :)

Just take more time off! You have earned it!

Okay, I guess I can not run with you in Park City little lady! It is the same day as Hobblecreek. BUMMER, I love running with you!

From Smooth on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 18:10:42 from 71.36.79.7

BUMMER!!! You'll have fun at Hobblecreek. That's one fast Half.

From Kathie on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 19:47:35 from 207.155.176.10

You will do great on Friday...nobody care how fast you run at Wasatch Back...you just have to be fun which you are!

From Bec on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 21:07:35 from 67.177.35.60

You will be ready for Friday, you are always ready!

From MarcE on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 21:55:26 from 24.155.140.8

I'm a staunch proponent of the rest days..take a few, you deserve them! Any workouts this week won't help you run any faster at WBR. RECOVER, WOMAN! You just ran a marathon!! :)

From Maurine/Tarzan on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 10:38:04 from 63.255.172.2

You will recover in time. You always do. Take a few days just walking or resting and let those muscles and tendons heal.

From Smooth on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 11:13:08 from 71.36.79.7

Kristi,

I eat the same stuff almost everyday. I need to gain some muscle mass. I do better if I gain 2-3 pounds before marathon.

Leslie,

I'd love it if you move in with me. We'll let Harold move in too. I have a complete apartment in the basement which is currently taken over by my teenager. You and I can eat good and you can show me all the cool trails around here.

Rachel,

Lowell is the precise reason I'm so scared that I'm not ready to run WBR. He's older than me, he runs more marathons with less time in between than me. I'm a disgrace to veteran master runners.

If I make your meal plan, it'd be very boring...fish, whole grain, greens, fruits. You are allowed ice cream, brownies, shakes, cookies before and after a marathon though. Hmm, is that why I'm a marathon junkie?

Kathie,

Of course YOU wouldn't worry about how fast I run. YOU already know how SLOW I run. I just hope I CAN run or I might just be there for comic relief.

Bec,

Not this one...I don't know what I'm doing.

Marc,

I'm not trying to get faster. At my age, not slower is considered a major improvement. I just hope I CAN run.

Maurine,

I hope you are right. These old puppies aren't recovering like they used to. You are recovering faster than me though.
