Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Was so tired when I woke up that I didn't want to go run.  Had hubby take me to the HS track on his way to work at 6:45am.

2 miles warm up at average pace of 10:00

1200m @ 5:34

1000m @ 4:43

800m @ 3:45

600m @ 2:45

400m @ 1:51

All with 200m RI

Ran 3.25 mi from the HS track to home, all uphill.  Had to walk the last hill which the HS Xcoutry Team dubbed the "Killer Hill". 

I still don't get how to work the Garmin with this kinda interval workout.  I reset the thing after the 2 mile warm up.  Then hit lap and start button at the start of the 1200m, then hit stop button for the 200m RI.  I hit lap button again for the 2nd interval and when done realized it didn't start.  So on the 3rd interval I hit the start button.  I had to do math in my head to figure out the time  of each interval as the timer showed the accumulated time, not per interval.  May be I should have hit the start AND lap button at the start of each interval?

HELP!  I'm so i-challenged!

Nice workout Smooth!! I'm impressed that even though you didn't want to get up and run you still got out there AND did speed work! I'm not sure how to do the Garmin thing either, but I think you leave it running like normal (no stop/start) and just hit lap when you start and finish. Then it marks the start and stop of your interval, plus then you also know your rest pace. Kelli figured it out...I'm sure she'll be by soon and tell you exactly :)

Very nice workout Smoothie!!! I think RAD is correct. Just hit the lap button. I think if your Garmin is set to automatic laps every mile, you'll have to turn off that feature. So once you start running,hit the start button. After a mile, hit the lap button. After the second mile, hit it again. Then if you do 1200m, hit it after the 1200m. after your 200m rest interval, hit it again, etc. etc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I think RAD/Don have it right. Leave your watch running, just use the lap button to separate your distances/sections. So had you done that today your watch would read:

Lap 1 Distance: 1 mile - 10:00 min

Lap 2 Distance: 1 mile - 10:00 min

Lap 3 Distance: .74 miles - 5:34 min

Lap 4 Distance: .25 miles - 3:00 min (walking recovery)

Lap 5 Distance: .62 miles - 4:43 min

Lap 6 Distance: .25 miles - 3:00 min (walking recovery)

Lap 7 Distance: .50 miles - 3:45 min

.....

And so on and on and on and on and on.

Its up to you to care/report those in between recovery sections, but they would be recorded on the watch. You can go back in the history and delete those laps if you want.

I would be happy to help you disable the feature Don was talking about, the auto lap is probably set for 1 mile laps.

THANKS for the help. OK, I will disable the auto lap which IS set at 1 mile. Then just punch the lap button with each interval.

THANKS for spelling it out so clearly for me. I'm going to do a "trial run" around the block and figure this thing out. One more question. Will the "time" screen shows the actual lap time (while I'm running)? Or I have to wait till I'm done to scroll the history to view each lap? Today, I think a little alert screen popped up and showed the lap time after every 2.75 mile, weird. TYI.

Smooth, the display may display the actual lap time, and total time. If I remember correctly you have the Garmin 305, and that is something you can set how you want displayed. Again happy to help you if you need.

As for the 2.75, with "auto lap" set to on and at a mile interval you would get really odd alerts if you are hitting the lap button in addition to the auto lap.

Really great workout today, and I know how hot it probably was down at the track. You went up Killer Hill? NO WAY!!! I don't think I ever will attempt that thing in my life. As for the Garmin, I really don't know how to work mine.

There were ton of high school kids doing their "drill", marching band, football in the field. At least they're not on the track. The cloud covering made it so it wasn't too hot during the speed work. But the run home was very hot, until I got to Dry Creek which has some nice shady spots. No, I did NOT run up the entire Killer. Not today, I walked the top half. When the "bench" used to have fewer homes and traffic going up and down Killer, I would run that thing. Now, it's kinda dangerous.

Oh, and thanks for the tip on the ice bath, or torture bath, whatever you want to call it, but I think I will try the hoodie and socks and sip on something and read, , , , nice ideas, , , until the kidlins wake up and they will think I've gone Bonkers!!! . . . .

Smooth, great track workout. Looks like Jon A has you all set up to work the garmin. Like he said, just hit the lap button between each interval not the start/stop button and you should be good to go. I don't even take mine off the auto lap feature if my repeats are less than a mile.

If you do the torture bath when your little boys are awake, they can dumb the ice in and watch you scream. That will give them the biggest kick.
