Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Schedule calls for 1 mile easy,  6 miles @ 8:53, 1 mile easy.  I LOVE tempo day.  Tempo run is my favorite workout...just barely out of the comfort zone but felt like I've accomplished something.

Mile 1 ~ 9:50 (Running east w/ cool temp and sun's behind the mountains.  Lotsa bikers heading towards Alpine.)

Mile 2 ~ 8:43 (First 0.5 mile is slightly up, then turn around same route heading west.)

Mile 3 ~  8:22 (Breeze on the back felt great as the sun peeked over the mountains.)

Mile 4 ~ 8:35 (Slight uphill for 0.25 going north up to the rolling Bull River Rd.)

Mile 5 ~ 8:32 (Slight decline at 1600W and turn around going east.)

Mile 6 ~ 8:36 (Slight incline heading east on Bull River.  The breeze coming off the canyon felt great as the sun warms the valley.)

Mile 7 ~ 8:22 (Love this mostly straight stretch.  Waved to other runners who I've passed earlier.  Trying to stay focus.  Could feel back ached a little.)

Mile 8 ~ 8:43 (Surprised to see how fast this mile came in.  Thought I was running marathon pace.  Left knee & right calf complained when slowing down.)

8 miles in 1:09:45.  AP: 8:43.

Hurried to meetings and found out it's moved to tomorrow.  Looking forward to special lunch today!  Hope y'all having a GREAT Thursday!

Nice run today Smooth!! Enjoy your special lunch.

From Cal on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 11:39:56 from 66.133.117.3

You were cruising on your tempo miles today. I think you're poised for a huge PR at SGM. Nice work.

you LIKE tempo runs? I really do want to be you! What a GREAT workout! Have fun at lunch today :) Super good times :D

From leslie peterson on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 11:47:04 from 76.23.61.78

Hey, is the heat turning you into an early bird? I am surprized at how specific you are with your runs, you want to pull out a certain time and you do...... it is like magic! Magical Smooth! That is so cool!!!

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 11:48:03 from 71.32.233.46

Lorie,

THANKS!!! How was your run this morning?

Cal,

That will be SWEET! I'll take even a small PR!

Marion,

Yes, I LOVE tempo run. I used to fret about them. Now I look forward to it. They are not killer runs like speed intervals. You can cruise at a "hurry up" speed and NOT die at the end. You will like it, I promise.

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 11:51:57 from 71.32.233.46

Leslie,

Yes, I now belong to jun's sub-6 club (not sub-6 pace, just get up and run before 6). Thanks for your kind words. You should be chairwoman of the sub-6 club. You inspire me to get my behind out the door...still not the early bird like you are! Let's go get our worms! :)

From RivertonPaul on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 13:04:54 from 67.42.27.114

So impressive. Amazing you love tempo days. It is after all, tempo, not temple.

From Maurine/Tarzan on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 15:44:26 from 97.117.71.75

Great job on the tempo runs. I need to work on those (especially my attitude about them).

From jeffc on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 16:04:08 from 167.207.128.101

Great run today Smooth! I love tempo days too (especially when I finish) but I don't think I could ever describe them as being barely out of the comfort zone...your way too tough...and I'm just a wimp.

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 18:01:57 from 71.36.74.201

Paul,

I love temple days too!!!

Maurine,

I'll bet you have favorite workouts. It's so true about attitude...I have to change my attitude about speed day (intervals). Tempo is like child's play compare to interval workout.

Jeff,

Hmm, may be I should run them harder? I just run them like I'm in a hurry. See, I'm a REAL wimp, I don't like pain. You're always kicking bumbum with your tempo runs...YOU'RE the TOUGH ONE!!!

From MarcE on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 19:43:05 from 24.155.140.8

Those paces looked more like threshold miles than tempo miles. You blew away the goal. How are you feeling going into PC?

From Smooth on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 21:24:51 from 71.32.238.231

Marc,

Is threshold same as tempo? What differentiate the two? I have so much to learn.

I'm feeling better this year going into PC. Last year I ran DNews (4 weeks out) and Provo River 1/2 (2 weeks out). I had bad charlie horse at the Provo 1/2 finish. My calves were tender to touch for days. As you recalled, I gave you quite a scare at the PC finish. I hope this will be a thing of the past. I'm treating PC as a 26.2 training run.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 21:49:44 from 152.216.7.5

You are going to do great at PC. It's getting close.

From Teena on Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 22:35:42 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth ... You didn't tell me what a killer run you had today!!! WOW!!! And you didn't appear tired even one bit. You amaze me ... seriously.

Also, I can't begin to thank you enough for the afternoon. I owe you BIG TIME!!! It'll be fun when the kids are in school and I don't have to feel rushed. Maybe you and I should go on a girls weekend trip or something. We could get a bunch of us to do it. It'd be so much fun!!!! :)

You are the BEST!!!!

Smooth,

I've never used tempo run and love in the same sentence! You are awesome! Great run, especially after already doing great speedwork this week. I'm also counting PC as a nice 26.2 training run, no stress, just easy running! It will be fun and hopefully I get to see you!

From Huans32 on Fri, Jul 31, 2009 at 08:27:52 from 138.64.2.76

Awesome job on that fast tempo run. You just keep getting faster and stronger.:)

From JulieC on Fri, Jul 31, 2009 at 20:07:40 from 67.42.20.84

Yes I too dred tempo runs but they are a necessary evil. I shall attempt one at 0500 am tomorrow. You did GREAT Smooth. Being positive helps so I will try on your example, but I am going to cheat and go down the AF canyon to help self propel. Haven't told my hubby he is waking at 445am to drive me there : D
