Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

EZ PZ recovery.

Today I accepted Amber's invitation and committed to have NO SUGAR for the month.  I'm proud to report that I did it!!!  Hubby surprised me with a movie date, the Avatar.  We had no candies.  Right after the movies,  I went to a baby shower where there were treats galore.  I hadn't had dinner and was starving and only ate the veggies (broccoli, carrots, celery, cucumber and olives with dip and apple slices).  Now I'm having a bowl of beef barley soup.  I'll probably have an orange before I go to bed.  One down, 24 more days to go!  Wish me luck! :)

:) :) :)

I'll eat plenty of sugar for you. I am stuffing Skittles in my mouth as I type!!! I love the orange ones! :)

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:26:39 from 174.23.232.65

SSF ~ You can afford to eat all the candies you want...just don't tell me about it, especially if it's chocolate! Arrgh!

From Teena Marie on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:30:48 from 174.52.45.85

Can you at least have the sugar-free chocolate hot cocoa??

From Teena Marie on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:31:23 from 174.52.45.85

Funny -- I guess I did not need the chocolate adjective on the hot cocoa!!! :)

From AmberG on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:31:38 from 64.255.88.22

Smooth I'm so happy you are in! woot woot! Sugar Shmugar!!!!!

Teena I love the thought of you eating skittles as you type though:) makes me smile! (but I don't even like skittles so no worries on the temptation) and in March I'm sure I'll join u in the treats while typing, I just go for the super bad treats like warm cookies or humongous milk shakes!

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:35:38 from 174.23.232.65

Can you believe Teena likes liquorish? I That's not treat! Don't mention chocolate again or even the word cocoa! Is there such a thing as sugar free cocoa? Can I chew gum? I had some gum at the movie!

From Teena Marie on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:42:30 from 174.52.45.85

Yes, there is sugar free hot cocoa!! I have a huge 'ol box of individual packets that I bought at Costco!!! :)

Licorice is AWESOME!!! And gummi bears too!!! But Almond Joys, peanut M&Ms, and chocolate cinnamon bears are the BEST! Wait ... what am I talking about? All that stuff is icky!!! STINKY ICKY UCKY!!! Got that girls??? STINKY!!!!

From Smooth on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:52:51 from 174.23.232.65

Where's the delete buttons for all those STINKIES! You better hit the sack before I go bonkers. Prez is having a cup of hot cocoa w/ sugar toast right now sitting next to me. He's floored when I refused his offer!

From RAD on Wed, Feb 03, 2010 at 23:59:21 from 67.172.229.125

Smooth you are one brave woman!! I don't think I could give up sugar for a week let alone a month!! However, I will speak my 2 cents about sugar free - it's worse for you than sugar!! That nasty chemically derived sugar will literally rot you from the inside out, if you want sweet go with a natural low calorie sweetner like stevia or just sugar in the raw. Sugar is good for you in small quantities and in the right form...don't give in to nasty chemical sugar, seriously not worth it!

(take it or leave it and I may create a huge discussion now, I do occasionally have the junk as well, but it really is VERY bad for you).

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 00:03:59 from 174.23.232.65

Rachel ~ Thanks for the advice. You don't have to worry about me going for the sugar substitutes. I don't like them. Really, my major weakness is chocolate especially the good dark chocolate. I used to love ice-cream; now I'm totally fine without them.

From RAD on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 00:05:19 from 67.172.229.125

Isn't there some 'dark' chocolate that has no added sugar? You should look, because I'm pretty sure there is.

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 00:09:18 from 174.23.232.65

Yes, there is. They are for cooking, very bitter.

Amber says I can have chocolates on Valentines Day. I'm going to have just the finest dark chocolate and that will be a very nice reward! :)

From RAD on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 00:11:13 from 67.172.229.125

mmmm...Valentines day :) I love that it is on Sunday this year and I get to spend it with my sweet family!!

From Smooth on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 00:14:14 from 174.23.232.65

Don't mention sweet! Although you do have a ----- family! :)

From RAD on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 00:32:28 from 67.172.229.125

From Scott Wesemann on Thu, Feb 04, 2010 at 16:50:09 from 66.239.250.209

Smooth, you are much stronger than I am. Good luck this month. Working out every day is tough enough, I need my vices :)
