Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Legs felt much better after 2 days of no running so I took the new shoes out for a test-run (I wore them yesterday walking on the TM)!  Temp was 12 degrees, sunny, no wind.  Wore, 2 pairs of socks, Boston 3/4 zip fleece, CW-X insulator tights, beanie and ski-mittens...it was PERFECT!

The first mile felt hard...feet, knee, quads started to complain immediately...almost abandoned the run.  Once warmed up I focused on smooth strides, listened to foot-falls and pumped the arms more.  Finally got in the groove after 5 miles.  However marathon pace felt harder than it should be.  Not going to worry about speed right now!

Recovery:  15 min of stretching, 10 min of foam roll.  Will ice if knee hurts and more stretching and rolling to follow this evening!

Ry had to work my leg over good tonight. Ouch!!! Here's the funny thing though: after about 5 minutes he said it was hurting is hands and he didn't want to do it anymore. He is so stinkin' funny!!!!

Rachel ~ Yep, I have neglected the little things like rolling out the tight muscles, for smart recovery. It is so much more needed now that I am getting OLDER! :)

Kathie ~ I'm glad I didn't bail; but then again who knows if it was a foolish thing or not...time will tell.

Paul ~ The body or mind wants to run the former speed. I just have to not think about speed! Thanks for your support! How's the archilles today? More mobility, I hope!

SSF ~ I'm with Ry! I'm sure it hurts to inflict pain on your love! :) Larry would not last for more than ONE minute! I think Ry just was too excited for your acceptance into PT and wants to *fool around* a bit! ;)

Rhett ~ I hope your knee is back to 100%! Mine felt fine today w/ the 16 miler! I'm hopeful that I can continue to get ready for Boston. I won't be racing it. Will be super happy if I can get there and run painfree!
