Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Last night I dreamed that I was running on the beach.  I kept sinking in the sand and going nowhere.  When I woke up, the knee pain was gone.  But it came back when I knelt to pray.  Hubby make me promised ~ NO running today.

Wendy, Mary and Beth came to my door with running shorts on.  Mary, who didn't make the SGM lottery, said:  "I've never seen you in civilian clothes before. "  There goes my identity!  Sorry girls, no running for me, 99% sure I'm not running Ogden.  Darn the ITBandit!

The bright spot of the day was going to Teena's.  She worked on my ITB good and sore and loosen up the fascia.  She is AMAZING!  She knows how to find the tensor facia and where the tight spots are.  She also showed me how to use the foam roller.  And then she taped my knee up.  THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH TEENA!  I owe you big time.

Got me a foam roller from Wasatch Running Center.  They sold out of the aqua belt which costs $52.  I'm sure I can find one cheaper somewhere else.  I'm gonna start pool running to keep me from going crazy.  Patience...no running...no matter how nice the weather and how NOT sore the knee feels!

Sorry about the stinky Bandit!!! I'm really glad Teena's magic fingers worked so well...maybe I should make an appointment :)

Oh, the aqua belt I wouldn't buy. I mean you can if you want, but I would always just use one of the rec center's ones that they have for water aerobics. Especially since you won't be using it too long :) Good luck with the pool!! By the time we're all done recouping injuries we'll be ready for a tri!! :)

Rachel, good thinking. I might try one at the Lehi Legacy center first. My neighbor has a pool. I need to learn how to swim.

Smooth,

Welcome to the smelly world of chlorine! Is this season for injury? I don't really think Swine Flu is going around. We are all catching the "injury" flu.

I am really sad that have to sit Ogden out, but it's better to be safe than sorry. We both know that. You have to think about the AMAZING Boston experience if you get to caught up in the stress of your injury. You have already qualified to go back next year, and you ran that race without a flaw! That memory has sustained me during the last few weeks.

The pool will do you well. I have seen some aquatic belt things at Big 5, if you don't want to use the one at the pool. The Legacy Center should have one you can use.

This Saturday I am going to the Legacy Center for a spin class, swimming, and weights. You are welcome to join me some of the time or the entire time.

I know that you will get through this because you are Smooth. You have so much will power, and I really look up to you.

Take care of the Smooth. You will be up and running in no time! I am praying for you!

Sounds like you have a plan to get better and your own personal trainer, what more can you ask for!

Very cool that you have Teena (and all your friends) to take care of you. Get well, soon!

Bec,

THANKS! Boston seemed like a distant memory, but it's only been 22 days! Wow, my brain is bazerk. You are so right about it though. I have to remember the good race to carry me through this little bump on the road.

I sure hope you heal fast and completely. You are so much stronger than me and mature in your thinking. Thanks for saying you look up to me; most people have to look "down" to me.

I might just take up your offer to go to the Legacy Center. I've never ever used that facility before. I don't even know where to begin. I don't know how to swim. Chlorine shall be our new perfume. If nothing else, we'll be sanitized.

Kathie & Rhett,

THANKS! I don't know why I'm so blessed to have such great friends as you guys and especially Teena. She is an amazing amazing girl! What a blessing that I met her two years ago at Ogden while we were leap-frogging on the course.

You should go with Teena...You two would have a blast!!!

Smooth,

You make me laugh! Yes, we will be very sanitized from our pool work.

I will head over to the gym (Legacy)about 7 I believe. It will be a party. Are you able to cycle? Or do you think that would be too hard on your leg? Let me know.

Bummer about Ogden. I hope you heal quickly and can get back to what you love.

From Smooth on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:25:28 from 71.36.74.243

Bec,

I love party! I need it!!! The knee hurts when I bend it especially if it hasn't been warmed up. May be by Fri. or Sat. the inflammation will be all subsided and the ITB gets loosened. Is the spin class first? Call me. THANKS.

I am a HUGE ADVOCATE for the use of foam rollers....they are "body preservers!"

From Smooth on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:36:09 from 71.36.74.243

jun,

Thanks. I hope so too. Injuries stink!

Mrs.FIT

It hurts so bad to roll that thing. May be I'll get used to it.

From Rhett on Wed, May 13, 2009 at 12:45:59 from 74.41.249.102

$52 for an aqua belt? That is robbery! Look on line. I don't think I paid more than $25 for mine, but that was a few years ago and with all us getting hurt and not being able to run, supply is up. LOL

I'm glad Teena is taking good care of you.

Get better. You have an excellent wannabee-but-soon-to-be PT. Yeah, I'm a poet.
