Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!! 

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

I am so mad at myself right now!!!

I don't know what to do!!!!  I am hoping this is just a fluke!!! 

This morning I dragged my tired body out of bed trying to decide whether to rest or run the 4 recovery miles per plan.  All my running buddies were taking a rest day.  I decided to jog the 0.9 mile to Karen's house to give her some S-caps she may take on Sat.  I jogged on the sidewalk as there were lots of traffic coming from behind and there was no shoulder room on the other side of the road.  I felt some discomfort on my foot and dismissed it as running on concrete.  

After watching Karen showed me her new running outfits, I talked her into trying out the sleeveless top by going for a test run with me.  I felt clunky and lead legged.  Soon after the turn around at my mile 2, the discomfort on my foot became painful so we walked back to her house. 

We stood and visited with her neighbor after we got back to her house.  While standing, I rotated and stretched my foot and could feel the discomfort.  My attempt to run home was futile, I walked with pain the entire mile home.  Saw Wendy working in her yard as I limped by, I just broke down and cried when she asked me what's wrong!!!  :(  

The splits tell the sad story: 10:48, 10:35, 15:09, 21:25.  So so so so mad at my stupid foot!!! :(

Sorry Smooth - I know the frustration. It sounds exactly like what I've been dealing with the last year. I have found that I can't rotate, stretch, etc the foot. That just makes the pain worse.

Not much to offer other than take it day by day. It will get better.

Such bad luck!! I hope that it just needs to be propped up and rested for a day. Don't get too discouraged. Like I always tell my kids when they are upset about a swim race "it's not like this is the last race you'll ever swim. You have another chance at the next one." I also tell them the only time they are allowed to cry over swimming is if they are at olympic trials and come in third, because only the top two get to go. Other than that, it's not that important, but that is for another time!

Kirsten ~ THANKS!!! I have to keep telling myself that "not running" is not the end of the world! I spent over an hour talking/listening to my neighbor, Beth, after I limped home, before getting in the house. She has much much much more pressing issues to deal with than my little stupid foot! :)

RAD ~ I told Wendy that I may borrow your boot...may be I could walk Ogden with both boots on! She said: "Then you'd ruin your hips and knees and glutes..." Yah, I added: and ruin my tan line ,..or worse, run over by a car because the course support would be over! :) STUPID FOOT!!!

Smooth--I'm in the RAD camp. I live in a world of denial. Seriously though, I really-really-really hope it was just a fluke. Just like I hope my calf pain I was experiencing just walking today was a fluke. Finners crossed!

Oh Smoothie, I hope you didn' re-fracture your foot. Just so you know, it's not unheard of to do the marathon in a boot. A friend of mine at work did Ogden a few years ago in a boot and she finished....The funny thin is, she finished before me. lol

Unfortunately I took the risk and ended up with my first ever DNF! I pulled out after running in pain for 6.5 miles where I was able to get help from the traffic officers, Hubby deposited me to the 50 yard before finish where I cheered my heart out for my friends from 9 to noon.

Am in quite a lot of pain, am icing the foot intermittently, elevating and immobilizing. I am posting here with my iPad from bed...no lap top computer...so will report at a later time! Meanwhile just want you all to know I really appreciate your friendship and am trying to stay positive and express my love and admiration to you all! XOXOXOs

Smooth- sorry to hear about your foot and the race not going well. There's a first time for everything, so now that you got the DNF out of the way, you'll never have to worry about checking it off your list! I hope you are only in for a short recovery. I know you being there & cheering was great for the other runners. You helped RAD (and I'm sure many more) meet their goals by being there & sending them positive energy!!
